A government funded plan to construct a natural gas distribution system in Lordsburg is explained by City Attorney H V Payne and officials. The State Game and Fish Commission of Santa Fe seeks public water for a new Glenwood hatchery in Catron County. New Mexico Range Condition Drops From July High

New Mexico ranges remain above normal but July rainfall was insufficient to keep the good condition. Range condition as of August 1 stood at 68 percent of normal, down from 93 percent last month and 76 percent a year ago. Cattle and calves are in good flesh with calves gaining well, while sheep and lambs enjoy good range feed and strong weight gains. Feed supplies are ample across the state with intentions to feed many next winter. lambs are contractually sold at high prices.

Lordsburg Hormes Show at Duncan Race Meet

Two Lordsburg Hiding Club horses impressed at the Duncan meet held last weekend. Healark, owned by Sanders and Hill, ran a close third in the three-eighths race against top Arizona runners including Jim Armstrong’s bay stallion and the Mobley mare from Douglas. Dim, owned by Mrs Patay Wallace, also placed third in a five-horse field, while Elmer Stevens’s stallion led by a length and finished first with Chapman's bay thoroughbred second. all three horses finished in a bunch. The meet management was praised for classifying the entrants.

New Mexico Officials Report Tax Revenue Increases

John D. Bingaman Commissioner of Revenue and George Graham of the sales tax department spoke on official business. They reported last month sales tax at $350 000 and gas tax at $401 000, nearly double the amounts from a year ago.

Former Steins resident regains sight after welfare aid

William Owens now living in Lordsburg after two years of aid to the needy blind returned from Albuquerque where Dr Harrison L Brehmer performed a cataract operation. Hospitalization and glasses were paid by Hidalgo county commissioners with cooperation from the Department of Public Welfare. Owens is pleased to have his eyesight restored and greets friends.

County Commissioner Showcases Bountiful Texas Garden

Me-has, a county commissioner, boasted about a 30 by 40 foot Texas avenue garden where he grows green corn peas beans radishes onions mustard lettuce cucumbers watermelons and cantaloupes. He harvested a 30 pound watermelon recently and says he has not bought vegetables this summer and has given away much of his produce. He notes irrigation uses very little water.

Gowans Moves to Lordsburg in Mining Interest

X Gowans formerly active in mining in the Hermanas district has relocated to Lordsburg continuing his mining interests. He previously served as secretary and manager of commerce at home Alaska noted as the farthest north of any commerce in the United States sessions.
