At a Lordsburg Board of Education meeting on July 12 Dr James L Latham principal of the high school was elected Superintendent of Schools effective July 20 He is a widely known educator author lecturer artist businessman and consultant with notable credits such as Educator of the Year 1967 and Who's Who in American Education He is expected to advance local schools toward contemporary educational practices and improvements.

Youth Hurt When Struck By Car In San Antonio
Edward F. Rodriguez an 11 year old boy was struck by a van type vehicle while crossing Railroad Avenue in front of Hidalgo Hotel Coffee Shop. He suffered leg and elbow fractures and facial injuries. Driver Zandra D. Long 22 of Burbank California was not cited. The boy received care at Hidalgo General Hospital and was later moved to El Paso.

Congressman Runnels Plans Tour of Second District
U.S. Representative Harold Runnels will visit Lordsburg on Friday August 25 as part of a region wide tour during a congressional recess from August 19 to September 4. He aims to visit 24 communities in 18 counties starting August 19 at Artesia and Carlsbad and will address the AFL CIO State convention in Carlsbad. He will travel from Deming to Silver City on the same day.
