SFC Angel Talavera of the New Mexico National Guard is awarded The New Mexico Medal of Merit at retirement ceremonies at Dona Ana Range Camp Fort Bliss Texas. The citation praises his fidelity, duty, adaptability and initiative over more than twenty years of service including WWII Navy service aboard USS Lunga Point and lengthy unit support at annual training and drills.

Woman Fatally Struck by Truck Near Lordsburg
A 55 year old California woman died after being struck by a westbound truck about 2:30 a.m. near Frosty’s Truck Stop east of Lordsburg. Margy Helen Bartle of San Francisco was identified as the deceased after initial records listed Marie Fernandez. The driver, Donald A. Summers of Clarkesville Tennessee, could not avoid the collision. officer Mike Carrillo found the woman walking east with a bus ticket and speculated she may have been diabetic. The victim died minutes after arrival at Hillcrest General Hospital in Silver City.

Local Guard Unit Returns From Camp
Local Guard unit 2nd AW Bn 200th Army returned from 15 days at Dona Ana Range after evaluating training by the 4th US Army Reserve Components Team. Major Jesus Estrada and Capt.
