VA to Make Direct G Loans in Lordsburg

The Veterans Administration announces direct GL loans in Lordsburg with about 290000 allocated to New Mexico. Loans target areas where local lenders do not accept G I loans. Veterans should contact Loan Guaranty Officers at the VA Regional Office in Albuquerque for forms and applications. Local veterans are requested to respond.

Piano and Organ Recital Planned for August 28

Miss Margaret Richards and Mark Bowman, talented young musicians from Lordsburg, will present a piano and organ recital at the First Methodist Church on Monday evening August 28 at 8 15. The event marks the first such presentation for the community. Both students are entering their junior year of high school and have studied under local instructors, with Richards serving as organist since 1949 and Bowman continuing piano studies.

Chamber of Commerce Dinner Meeting August 21

Ulrich Miller and his two sons William and Robert acquire Musgrove Chevrolet Co. from Elizabeth Musgrove. They assumed possession August 1 and rename the business The Miller Chevrolet Co. The Millers plan to reside on 6th Street and 5th Street in Deming and continue a long involvement in the local Chevrolet trade.

Kenneth Pharr Named New Football Coach at Lordsburg High

Kenneth Pharr of Lubbock Texas is hired as Lordsburg High School football coach for his first year. A Lubbock High and University of New Mexico graduate with a BS degree, he arrives this week and will meet interested players at 9 30 Friday morning August 18th at the high school.

Barkley to Speak at Albuquerque Jefferson Day Banquet

Vice President Alben Barkley will headline the Jefferson Day banquet in Albuquerque on August 23, with more than 2,000 Democrats and delegates expected for the State convention on August 24. The $25 plate event at LaLoma ballroom will attract party leaders and Hidalgo county delegates named for the convention.

B B McAlister Named Principal At Lordsburg High School

B B McAlister longtime Floyd superintendent has been hired as principal of Lordsburg High School to replace Roy Meluwin who resigns and will teach fifth grade. He holds an MA from the University of New Mexico and is a BA graduate. The family will move to Lordsburg next week to occupy the A A Richards house on Highway 80.

American Legion Hosts Farewell Party For National Guard

The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary held a farewell dinner and dance for National Guard members and wives on Friday night August 1. More than 200 attended at the Legion hall with refreshments from four grocers and beer from local bars. Roger Wesley and his orchestra provided the music.

Stewardesses to Be On All Frontier Flights

Frontier Airlines will place stewardesses on every flight starting September 1. Irene Replogle announces the policy which will add about 25 new staff, bringing total to around 40 girls serving over 50 Rocky Mountain cities from Montana to the Mexican border.
