Harold Scofield reports that Miss Margaret Edington a popular teacher has wed Howard Harpham who runs a filling station in Carlsbad in the Cave city. Groom formerly operated a station on highway 180. Many friends extend congratulations to the couple.
Margaret Green and Ima Fairly supervise a group of Girl Scouts near Red Rock enjoying a grand time. The New Mexico Band arrived at Dearborn Depot Chicago on New Mexico Day July 11. Sixty members in white uniforms with red ties and yellow capes marched to the Fair, toured the Court of States, and attended the Hall of Science before a concert in the Court of States. They planned to perform again on Colorado Day.
Lordsburg oil station operators gathered Tuesday night at Hotel Hidalgo for a buffet and discussion on how to improve the oil business and town. Senator Lee Brown Atwood stressed Lordsburg as a tourist hub and urged fairness to all communities. A plan to form an organized group for cooperative efforts was adopted for the first of next month.
Noted embalmer W Steadman formerly with Caster and Maxon in El Paso has moved to Lordsburg and will oversee all funerals and embalming. He is regarded as a leading expert in the field.
Mr and Mrs H A Stockbridge announce the birth of their daughter Gladys Jean Stockbridge in Duncan on Monday. The child’s mother is Mary Ethel, the family’s daughter. Grandparents extend best wishes in the notice from J P Mestrezat.
Manager Campbell of Campbell Bakery thanks loyal patrons and local businesses for support as the bakery remains temporarily closed. He pledges to reopen with strong service in Lordsburg if similar loyalty continues, with assurance requested by the first of the coming month. Robert A. Morrow, Raton city attorney, joined Senator Lee Brown Atwood on a motor trip to Duncan and Clifton.
Fire partially destroyed Allan Cox's residence near the airport at one o'clock Thursday morning. The blaze caused damage to the home and disrupted the early hours in the neighborhood.
Mr and Mrs Richard Tatsch have moved out to the Gleason place. The notice records a relocation with the couple leaving their prior residence for a new address.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. B Cochran at Lordsburg Hospital on Sunday August 13. The baby will carry the name of the first Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall.
The Gateway Chain of Hotels including Hotel Hidalgo now operates all cafes grills and coffee shops. Hidalgo Hotel took over the grill and coffee shop from Mr and Mrs Walter Searles and C M Collins who ran it for nearly five years. Charles Roberts and wife arrive to supervise with Roberts Bros famed chefs to modernize the grill and set popular prices.
A special Lordsburg Dairy Association meeting voted to cooperate with the NRA program and form a local code aligned with national dairy codes. Officers for the next year were elected: President Ted Robertson, VP George A. Woods, Secretary-Treasurer O. K. Leonard.
County goat raisers revive a former tradition with a show planned for Lordsburg on Saturday September 2. Classes include registered kid, yearling, and aged bucks and grade kid, yearling, and mutton does plus a pen of three muttons. Rib bonds awarded for top three in each class.
Pawl Fox Sanitary Engineer and C H Dowthitt M D Director County Health Work State Bureau of Public Health toured Lordsburg yesterday as ambassadors of good will. They inspected needs and potential projects to improve sanitation and create employment for residents.
Bob Dunagan takes over Hidalgo County theater naming it Studio. Opening night features Will Rogers Janet Gaynor and other stars in State Fair plus short films. Upcoming attractions include Robbers Roost Cavalcade and The Silver Dollar with Eddie Allen as operator.
T W Plankett representing Waite J Keeney state director of the re employment service organized a county group in Lordsburg appointing Ronald A Fyon as chairman and Mrs Elizabeth Gamman as secretary. L C Brown A Cueto and C L McGhee named to the committee. The state has 15 million dollars for re employment with priority to ex service men and qualified locals.
The fire department conducted a practice drill Sunday morning and plans to hold these drills twice a month to maintain readiness.
County officials including Anti repeal Association head Woot K J Wood county secretary Mrs George I Jeffus and precinct chairman O E Davis traveled to Albuquerque for a three day state W C T U session. State Barber Commission president C L Buddy Brown returned from Santa Fe after attending its meeting.
Meant Mr J L Holloway of Chicago and his wife who wed in Lordsburg seven years ago on August 1 returned this year to mark the anniversary with Mrs Holloways sister Mrs Albert Pill. They were joined by Mr Holloways parents Mr and Mrs F E Holloway of Winnipeg Canada and the party then traveled to California for a brief vacation.
The State Game Commission approves a first elk season from November 6 to 15 in 120 square miles near the Pecos headwaters with 100 permits. Each permit allows one bull with at least one point per antler, applications due October 6, no priority by order received. An antelope season from October 1 to October 10 offers 19 permits, with a $5 application fee and drawing if applications exceed permits. Both require regular big game licenses and eligibility for hunters 14 or older.
Boxing at the Palador featured four bouts plus a main event. Robbie Williams versus Woodrow Rainbolt ended in a draw. Arneworth stopped Cockeral in round two. Philips knocked out Cavanah in round one. Flores and Woolridge drew. Talavera and Pena also drew in the main event. George D. Wacser advertised as the Camp Walrut promoter for fighters.
Mrs Nat Gammon hosted a Hidalgo Lounge afternoon in honor of Miss Mary Crowell of Douglas. Guests included Miss Louise Fisher, Miss Ruth Fisher, and Mary Josephine DeMoss.

State motor patrolmen for the first district of New Mexico Phil Coyle of Clovis and Ivan Johnson of Roy were selected to cover the district. They visited Lordsburg last Saturday with olive drab uniforms and new motorcycles attracting favorable comment. They underwent five weeks of tests before selection. Patrolmen travel in pairs to assist the public check license plates and aid tourists in a wide territorial area including Hidalgo Luna Grant Dona Ana Sierra Catron and part of Socorro.
