Mrs Leo Bates Home From Chicago Visit and Wisconsin Ties

Mrs. Leo Bates returned Sunday from Chicago where she attended the Century of Progress Exposition and visited her husband’s sister there. She saw W. H. and A. F. Krauter, brothers of L. C. Krauter of Lordsburg, during a Marshfield stop. In Abbotsford she learned her brother in law died from cancer.

Thursday Bridge Club Meets at Mrs Winters Home

The Thursday afternoon bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Frank Winters. Members present included Mesdames S. FE. Allen Oscar Allen J. L. Augustine Maurice Eppstein with hostess. Guests were Mesdames R. Allen Walter Boswell J. K. Vinson and Miss Ruth Chase. Mrs. Vinson won high score. Peter Mortensen visited from Virden Tuesday.

New Mexico Band Delivers At Century Of Progress

The New Mexico Band performed at the Century of Progress, marching from the Hall of Science to the Court of States and serenading fair officials. After a brief concert, they toured exhibits including the planetarium and Aurora display, then faced transport mixups at Navy Pier before a Missed boat and a long Lake Michigan cruise.

Driver Hits Golden Eagle Bus in Lordsburg Collision

Sunday afternoon an auto crash near Lordsburg Cafe involved C B Lewis of Los Angeles driving three cars toward Los Angeles. A woman passenger on the Golden Eagle Bus stood in the street. Lewis swerved to avoid her and struck the bus, damaging the Chevrolet and trailer while Mrs Lewis suffered a chin wound. The Plymouth fender was damaged. Lewis left the Chevrolet at Hidalgo Garage for repair.

Brief Court Session Noted By Judge Hay

Judge George W. Hay and Assistant District Attorney L P McHalffey reported a light docket Wednesday. The court considered a few motions and heard a handful of cases involving Mrs Effie Redmond in a concise session.

Sheriff Conner Recovers Los Angeles Runaway Louise Clark

Last Friday Sheriff Chas A Conner received a wire from Los Angeles about Louise Clark a 16 year old runaway traveling by bus across the country asking for help. He traced her through California and Arizona and finally halted her at a stagecoach stop where she confessed to being Mrs Bailey Smith the jail matron later escorted to the Smith ranch and then sent home on No 1 under Southern Pacific oversight.

Dam on Upper Gila River Would Employ Much Labor

Lordsburg chamber of commerce has forwarded to the re employment service a proposal to build a dam on the upper Gila River. The aim is flood control, water supply, and hydro electric power for a large area. Greenlee county chamber backs the plan, noting it would create many jobs and progress.
