Reed Couple Take Over Lordsburg Western Auto Store

Mr and Mrs Loyd Jiggs Reed become owners of the Western Auto Associate Store in Lordsburg, purchasing from Mrs Dudley Robertson and taking over August 10. Reed just finished Western Auto training in Los Angeles after 23 years with Community Public Service Co. The Reeds, longtime Lordsburg residents, include Mrs Reed the local librarian and active in civic affairs.

High School Registration Set for August 16 17

Pre registration for all high school students will be held August 16 and 17 in the high school library. Seniors report 9 10 am on August 16 with others later in the window. Juniors 10 30 to 11 30 am. Sophomores A L 1 00 2 00 pm. M Z 2 30 3 30 pm. Freshmen August 17 with each name block 9 00 11 00 am and orientation at 1 30 pm.

Man charged in stabbing at Hideaway Lounge

Raymond Ortega faces aggravated battery charges in magistrate court after the midnight stabbing of Alvina Bejarano at the Hideaway Lounge. Bejarano hospitalized with a knife wound to the abdomen and listed in satisfactory condition. Ortega was injured when disarmed by Juan Romero Bejarano, per Police Chief C. C. Gray. a pool cue was the weapon. Bond set at $6000.

Lordsburg Youths Attend Ed Macauley Camp

Five Lordsburg High School boys attended Ed Macauley basketball Camp in Grand Junction Colorado last week. Coaches and professionals Jerry West and Dick Van Arsdale aided in shooting dribbling passing and defense teaching new tactics for the 1971 72 season.

Runnels Aide to Visit Lordsburg for Meet and Listen

U S Rep Harold Runnels announces his administrative aide Rudy Valencia will be in Lordsburg on Wednesday August 14 at the State Police office in the new county building from 9 30 a m to 12 noon. Residents may drop in to discuss federally sponsored projects or issues of concern.

Football Season Tickets Now On Sale

The Mavericks offer six home games for the 1971 season with adult tickets at 1.50 and student tickets at 0.75 per game. Full-season deals include student for 3.00 and general admission adult 7.50 plus reserved seats at 8.00 along the west stands from the 43 yard line. Only 169 reserved seats available.

Twelve Lordsburg area residents joined the 40th Annual New Mexico School Bus Drivers Institute in Silver City. BU Loshbough, director, said the weeklong classes and activities enhance safety and duties for local drivers. Local Schools Open Aug 20 Lordsburg for 1971-72

Lordsburg Municipal Schools plan a August 20 registration day for the 1971-72 year with classes starting Monday August 23. New teachers have been hired and two positions remain to be filled before opening while building remodels at Central School and Traylor Elementary progress.

Uniformed Americans Enter Yugoslavia for Festival

American soldiers arrived in Sarajevo for a four day international music festival. The 33rd Army Band of U S Army Europe and Seventh Army CS C performed with seven bands including Yugoslav, French, and British RAF ensembles. More than 10 000 spectators watched on Yugoslav television. Sp4 Sims Bowers Jr. and his wife Karen joined the trip from Heidelberg with parents living in Lordsburg.
