Murder Hearing Continues In Pine Cienega Death Case
Lordsburg residents expected to testify in Silver City at the preliminary hearing for John Rizzo 20, of Gila. Rizzo is held on open murder charges in the death of Warren Uecker 60, whose body was found in a shallow grave on the Pine Cienega Ranch July 22. Uecker and Rizzo were Pine Cienega stockholders, a 7000 acre operation leasing vacation spots on ten year terms. Dr. James T. Weston testified the victim died of a single gunshot wound from distance. Charles Curtis said the body was buried under pine straw and that a 32 caliber gun and five cartridges were found. Magistrate Y B Morales presides.

Lordsburg Board Hires 5th Grade Teacher for 1980-81
Lordsburg Board of Education met in executive session Aug. 5 to hire Frank Acosta as a fifth grade teacher for the 1980-81 school year. Acosta is a University of Arizona graduate who attended high school in Bisbee and did student teaching in Yuma. The board also declared an emergency to repair roofs at Lordsburg High and Central Elementary, estimating costs near $8,000.

Judd elected vice president of Phelps Dodge Corporation effective Sept. 1. He will base in Douglas Western Offices handling technology and planning. Phelps Dodge Solar Plan Wins Contract Negotiations
Seven proposals including one at Playas were selected by the Department of Energy for contract negotiations to use solar energy for electricity and industrial heat. The designs cover solar heated air and steam for processes such as sulfur mining copper smelting and enhanced oil recovery with a projected 1985 86 completion.

Rabies Clinic Set for August at Fire House

Federal Grant To Make $28,000 Available Here
A federal grant administered by the state Highway Department will provide $28,000 in a four county area Catron Grant Hidalgo and Luna to assist rural public transportation planning and operation. The statewide grant totals $724,318 with 80 percent for capital outlay and 50 50 for operating expenses. Applications require a letter of intent by Aug 29 and must be received before Navy 14.
