Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers seeks tips on the theft of a heifer from Shakespeare Ranch Rita Hill and Janaloo Hill. Ex-Policeman Seeks Back Pay From Lordsburg City

Former Lordsburg patrolmen Rita DeLaGarza and Roy Patterson sought compensation from the city for back pay during suspensions tied to bribery charges in 1978. Patterson was ordered paid after tax deductions, while DeLaGarza has filed no formal action yet. The city council weighs the requests while costs of the Patterson suit were added to the 1981 tax rolls.

Lordsburg Woman Gets 90 Days In Jail

Cecelia Bejarano, a former Lordsburg Centennial Committee member, pled guilty to embezzlement over 100 and under 2 500 dollars. She will serve 90 days in Hidalgo County Jail starting Aug 1 and restitution of 1 936 60 was paid to the committee. The case was handled by Sixth District Attorney Ralph Ellinwood and Public Defender Tom Clark. The committee plans events for Lordsburgs 100th birthday October 13-18.

Centennial Group Keeps Lordsburg Centennial Plans On Track

Pine Cienega Ranch murder tied to single gunshot

Investigation continues after Warren Uecker, 60, is found buried on Pine Cienega Ranch. A .32 caliber pistol, wrapped in a plastic bag, was recovered near the scene. John Rizzo, 50, was arrested on an open murder charge. The ranch near Mule Creek hosts 7000 acres with camp leases offered for ten years.

Woman Charged With Forgery in Lordsburg

A 21-year-old Lordsburg woman, Barbara Escobar, faces five counts of forgery tied to checks issued to local businesses. She waived preliminary hearing before Lordsburg Magistrate Rosa Lina Salinas and was bound over to District Court. Sixth District Attorney Ralph Ellinwood prosecuted. Public Defender Tom Clark defended. Hidalgo County Sheriff's Department led the investigation. Arraignment was scheduled before Sixth District Judge Norman Hodges on Friday August 1.

Local Rescue Crews Training in Lordsburg

Hidalgo County volunteer firefighters and EMTs train in Lordsburg under Dave Rubio of the New Mexico State Fire Marshal's Office. The program stresses victim care to prevent further injury from improper removal. About 23 people from Animas, Lordsburg, Playas, Rodeo and Cotton City attended sessions at the local landfill this week.

Estrada Attends Training Class in Albuquerque

Dennis Estrada of the Hidalgo County Assessor's Office attended the 1980 County Assessors School at the University of New Mexico this week. Sponsored by the Property Tax Division, with instructors from the International Association of Assessing Officers, 111 New Mexico assessors and one from outside the state joined. Courses include Fundamentals of Real Property Appraisal and Mapping, aiming to improve property tax administration and collection statewide.
