Kerr Named Hidalgo County Farmers Home Committee Member

Kerr of Lordsburg becomes Hidalgo County Farmers Home Administration committee member for a three year term ending June 30. He will work with Parley P. Jones and Ernest A. Browning to review loan applications and adapt agency policies to local needs. The Farmers Home Administration provides loans for livestock, machinery, operating costs, buildings, fences, land, and water projects to farmers and non profits.

Dormitory occupancy planned for New Mexico Western campus

Board of regents discuss accepting portions of the new dormitory for occupancy by the end of the week. Aimed to provide living quarters for about a thousand guests arriving next week for the Bus Drivers Summer event. The head resident dormitory is at back Campus Village with names listed for the board. A baby named Marie born July 19 in Lordsburg weighs seven pounds at birth with Rose Marie noted as a sister.

Guardsmen to report at 4 a.m. for Fort Bliss departure

Lordsburg National Guard members are ordered to report at the armory at 4 a.m. Sunday for roll call before leaving for Fort Bliss. Commander 1st Lt. Jesus J. Estrada confirmed on Thursday the time is definitely 4 a.m.

Jesus Estrada departs Sunday for 15 days of active duty training at Fort Bliss Texas and Oro Grande range August 9 through August 3. Convoy leaves 4 AM with 20 vehicles to reach firing range by 3 PM. Mrs Jeanes Heads Legion Auxiliary in New Mexico

Mrs. Elmer Jeanes was installed as president of Robert Swan Unit No. 30, American Legion Auxiliary, at Legion Hall on Monday evening August 3. She succeeds Ena Mitchell and has served the Auxiliary as president seven times with 40 years continuous NM membership. Other officers include Mrs. Mertice Brooks as vice president and Ena Mitchell as recording secretary. The ceremony was led by Department President Mrs Fihe Slover of Deming.

School Board Sees Construction Film On New Lordsburg Buildings

Banes Construction Company of El Paso presented a film on Butler type steel structures to the Lordsburg school board. Architect Tom Waggoner discussed the film as plans for new gymnasium and cafetorium sites are reviewed. A bidder may visit nearby Deming Hatch and Las Cruces to assess costs and feasibility.

City Council Holds Light Session in Lordsburg Meeting

Lordsburg city council met with minimal action as bids on 6 inch waterline replacements were opened but not tabulated. A SP water tank purchase and garbage truck decision were deferred, with a special meeting to review costs and usability.
