The new owners thank Lordsburg residents for the warm reception and pledge to keep the Liberal in fine form. They note prior work at Star Mail Publishing in Madison Nebraska and invite locals to visit the office. Best wishes go to Mr. and Mrs. E C Vollmar and to the Malott family.
Thompson Motor Co announces a new addition in the median department with two new staffers Johnny Johnson and Charles Fulton bringing years of experience with Chrysler and Plymouth cars.
Mrs. H. H. Bryant and Mrs. Damon Dunagan were in Silver City on Tuesday visiting local friends and enjoying the town.
The Southern Pacific Railroad recorded daily high and low temperatures for a period in late July and early August. Measurements show highs around 95 to 100 degrees and lows in the 60s, with several days needing completion for a full record.
In the July 22 Liberal notice the daughter of Mr Louis Heldt and Mrs John Rita Jones of Lordsburg was incorrectly listed as Miss Rita Heldt. The proper parentage is Miss Heldt, daughter of Louis Heldt and Mrs John Rita Jones of Lordsburg.
The anti cancer campaign presses on in Hidalgo County with the quota far from reached. Donations are requested at nearly every business in Lordsburg or by contacting Mr Lon Robinson at Rit ter Walker Co. A drive worker will arrange pickup if you call home or office.
Bids opened for a new water main connection to the existing system. King Hoover Company of Phoenix won at 69 893.84 dollars, lowest of six, with others including P. R. Burn Las Cruces Pecos Valley Construction Allan Koff Southwest Construction Bayard New Mexico. A separate contract for a 300 000 gallon tank was awarded to Consolidated Western Steel Co. Phoenix for 14 950.00 dollars.
A serious crash 14 miles west of Lordsburg involved El Paso resident Gillespie Lawson 66 driving a Chrysler rear ending Buster McCant’s pickup from Animas. Lawson injured with eye damage and facial fractures. McCant uninjured but vehicle damaged. police say Lawson likely fell asleep.
An outdoor concert will be held Saturday August 6 on the Hidalgo County Courthouse lawn by the Lordsburg High School Band led by Harold Welles. Selections include marches by Conway Weber Olivadoti and Sousa, a Brahms dance, and other themed pieces. Participants listed include Nancy Gilbert Ruiz and Margaret Richards.
FE Forrest Sanders a prominent local attorney forms a partnership with R E Garland of Las Cruces. The firm named Garland and Sanders will operate in Las Cruces while Sanders maintains a Lordsburg office with Robert J. Barrett and M T Everhart. Sanders leads New Mexico State Bar as president and has Lordsburg city attorney experience. Garland serves as Las Cruces city attorney and Oklahoma legislator former.
City officials recently installed new parking meters from M. H. R. Corp on Railroad Ave and added trash cans to improve cleanliness. The meters, active since Saturday July 30, accept pennies or nickels and grant 12 minutes to two hours of parking based on deposit. No parking zones near hotels and other areas will be marked as bases are prepared for no parking signs.
A 1923 Chevrolet sedan owned by Hubert Wellman was burned Tuesday evening near Glenn Dorsett's home. Wellman is in service on the west coast. The interior burned before discovery as fire spread to the eaves. neighbors used a garden hose until the fire department arrived and control was established. Authorities suspect youngsters smoking in the car caused the blaze.
Cochran Service and Electric Appliance Co has moved to Railroad Ave in the first building east of the Post Office. The firm formerly occupied Animal St for about two years and is now open for business.
Carl Lehman visited Roswell last week. Mr and Mrs W A Tyler of Animal were guests of Mr and Mrs Asa Tyler on Monday.
