Lordsburg Coronado Theater Destroyed By Blaze

A fast spreading fire gutted the Coronado Theater in Lordsburg after an 8:25 p.m. report from Deputy Chavez. The blaze started in an air cooler room on the roof, fed by a westerly wind, and the building’s four adobe walls and seat scaffolding were left a charred ruin. The theater opened in 1948 and was owned by Warren Theaters Inc at the time of the destruction.

Todd Bensley Day Saturday in Lordsburg

A community event in Lordsburg honors Todd Bensley on Saturday August 4 with a balloon lift off at Hidalgo County Fair Grounds at 6 30 am seven balloons will be flown after a Friday briefing at the Elk's Lodge. A 10 00 am parade proceeds along Railroad Avenue Motel Drive ending at the fair grounds with presentations and a Todd Beasley Account 14772 payout.

James Clifford Ragland born July 3 1915 in Hammondsville Kentucky died July 23 1984 at Fort Bayard Medical Center. He served in the army from 1941 to 1944 and married Ernestine Bonar in 1943. Survived by wife and two sons David in Escondido California and Paul in Tonopah Nevada plus grandchildren and siblings. Funeral July 27 at Heather Chapel with Mountain View Cemetery interment in Lordsburg.

Lordsburg Warns Citizens Over Coronado Theatre Hazard

City authorities urge residents to avoid the Coronado Theatre amid concerns about adobe wall integrity that could fail unexpectedly. Animal Street will stay closed between 2nd and 3rd Street until further structural checks are completed. The Lordsburg Fire Department along with Animas and Cotton City Fire Depts. are praised for containing the fire to a single building.

Fabulous Fifties Lordsburg Reunion Celebrates Class of 1950s

About 400 graduates and staff gathered July 27 29 at Lordsburg for the Fabulous Fifties Reunion. Hosts included La Fiesta Club and the Civic Center with a banquet at the High School Cafetorium. Special awards honored long marriages large families and long attendance.

Lordsburg Declares Todd Beasley Day and Derby Plans

The City of Lordsburg proclaims August 4 1984 as Todd Beasley Day inviting all to a parade and activities. October 6 7 is set for the annual Soap Box Derby with instructions to contact Heidi Anderson for rules. The city and Optimist Club plan a rifle range near Pyramid Park and invite comments at The City Corner 206 S Main St Lordsburg NM 88045.
