Santa Fe Trains Detour Over S P

Owing to washouts of Santa Fe tracks west of Gallup all Santa Fe passengers were routed over their lines to Deming where they connected with Southern Pacific into Phoenix for two or three days early in the week. A large crew from Tucson was brought in to operate the Lordsburg to Tucson Santa Fe trains.

Three New Houses Near Completion Near City

The three small modern houses by Heather and Pan in the southeast part of the city are nearing completion and likely ready for occupancy by the fifteenth of next month or earlier. They are modern, well located, and expected to sell or rent quickly.

Boy Scouts Hold Watermelon Feed at Earheart Home

The regular meeting Tuesday night became a watermelon feeding event after pounds of fruit were bought. Attendees included Jr. Chase, Emmett Lovett, Geo Morris, John Gilmore, Royal Scott, Paul Wilkerson, Horace Horne, Jack Kerr, Marshal Fuller, and J A James. P OB test drilling near Lordsburg reaches 900 feet

The P O B Development Company test well eleven miles west of Lordsburg is drilling at about nine hundred feet. Early gas and oil shows were reported, but not enough to declare a viable commercial oil or gas well. Promoters express satisfaction with the formations and progress.

Cowboy and Horse Struck Dead by Lightning in Arizona

Moore of Duncan, Arizona, was killed when lightning struck a rider and his horse at the Z L ranch about 15 miles northwest of Lordaburg on Friday afternoon July 26. The man, an employee of the Lazy H N ranch, was knocked down as the horse fell. the body was later moved to a Duncan area home.

Auto Accidents in New Mexico Double in First Half 1929

Figures from the State Highway Service show 170 accidents in the first six months, excluding cities. Inattention tops causes with 65 incidents, with 27 for defective vehicles and 23 involving structural or road issues. Maurice Claude Trimble Rites Held After Tragic Death

Maurice Claude Trimble, prominent Lordsburg businessman, died Sunday from gunshot wounds inflicted by Martin Hughes. An inquest led by Judge Maraalis found Hughes at fault. he is held in the county jail awaiting District Court. Trimble, 19-? born August 16, 1907, was educated locally and at the University of Arizona, later operating Borderland Garage before planning a California move. Funeral services were at the Methodist Church Tuesday, with burial in Lordsburg Cemetery. many locals observed as businesses closed for the hour. He is survived by his parents and two sisters, with numerous relatives and friends attending from out of town.
