Old Timers Reunion Brilliant Success

The 7th annual Old Timers Association reunion at Deming Palomas Mexico Tucs o drew governors and state officials plus local leaders. Attendees praised smooth travel and cordial guards, with plans to return next year amid a large, sociable gathering of veterans and dignitaries from across the state.

Regular April Term District Court Opens Monday

The regular April term of District Court will open at Hidalgo courthouse on Monday April 20. The term was set earlier in the month by Dietrmet vige Dunifon who was called to work in the district. The jury was drawn for empaneling after court opens as a heavy docket faces the court, according to County Clerk vetl.

National Guards at End Annual Inspection

National Guard members led by Lieut McCarthy from Deming attended the annual inspection in Deming on Sunday. Sixteen Lordsburg members joined the trip and earned a good rating for tent pitching and other duties. Regular weekly drill is maintained by local members.

Stolen Car Recovered Near Gila Bend Arizona

A car owned by the Texas Louisiana Co and driven by construction foreman A Jenkins was stolen near his home early last week. Arizona officers arrested seventeen year old Lester Vandergriff after he allegedly drove the vehicle to Gila Bend. Vandergriff, from Pennsylvania, waived preliminary examination and was bound over to district court in $1000 bond.

Pioneer Resident Re Turns To Visit Here

Anton Mazzonovich and Mrs. Mazzonovich visited Lordsburg on Saturday en route to Deming for the Palo mas old timers reunion in Mexico Tuesday. He now lives in Los Angeles and is spending a month revisiting forty five years of frontier life. he once lived in Lordsburg Clifton and other towns as an Indian scout and entertainer and is the author of Trailing Geronoma.

Miser's Chest Mine Ships First Car of Ore Monday

W. Hi Harrison and associates have taken over the Misers Chest Mine from California sellers and prepared for mining. The first car of ore was loaded Monday and sent to the smelter as work continues on compressors shafts and muck cleanup. Harrison plans more machinery, a longer railroad spur, and electric power to ramp up operations with about twenty five workers initially, aiming for full operation soon.

Work Resumed At P O B Test Well West Of Lordsburg

The P O B oil and gas test eleven miles west of Lordsburg has resumed after a ten day pause due to the head driller's illness. A single crew operates with new equipment placed before drilling restarts. the test is about 125 feet deep with a sample tested by Major Thomas G Lackland showing oil bearing sand and gas bubbles in the slush pit.

Heather Improves Grounds On South Main Street

Jack Heather, a progressive civic minded contractor, has built wide sidewalks around his South Main Street lots and added concrete curbing shrubbery and landscaping. He and his wife are to be commended for the beautification of their premises.

Shrubbery Specialist Dr Fabian Garcia Visits Tate College

Dr Fabian Garcia from the State College of Las Cruces Extension spoke at Tate County High School on shrubs and plants suited to local soil and climate. He demonstrated live shrubs and flowers while the city and school body listened to practical horticultural guidance. The event was organized by local ladies leading a yards and gardens beautification campaign.

Bearcats Open Baseball Season Sunday

The Lordsburg Bearcats will open the baseball season next Sunday against the W. O. W. team of Central at the local diamond. Delayed earlier due to National Guardsmen inspection in Deming. Lordsburg belongs to the Grant County league of six teams.

Bader Visitors Tour City Tuesday

Mr and Mrs Albert KE Bader of Hachita were business visitors in the city Tuesday. The Biders operate the Little Hatchet Mines near Hachita and are also composers and publishers of popular songs and musical hits with releases going out regularly to a responsive public and strong sales at music dealers nationwide.

Luncheon Club hears reports at Up-To-Date Cafe

The Luncheon Club of business and professional men met Tuesday at the Up-To-Date Cafe with smaller attendance but strong interest. Mr Fry auditor of the Texas4 Louisiana Company gave the principal talk under chairman Love Jones. A bouquet from Mrs Bramble Ownby adorned the table. The next meeting will be at Hidalgo Grill with Leslie Blackburn as chairman.

Revival Services Draw Large Crowds in Lordsburg

Revival at the Church of Christ attracts strong turnout with Bible school targets met and plans for a closing day. Evangelist Sharp praised for leadership and fundraising ability. Moving pictures shown, a big reception for new members planned for Monday April 20 followed by the final sermon Sunday night titled Home. Bible school starts 9:00 Sunday morning with reception at 8:00.

Boy Run Down by Auto Near Circus Grounds

Jimmy Stockton son of Mrs. Jack Cureton of Hedrock was struck by an auto driven by Harold Hulsie of Ban Simon on Sunday near the circus grounds in thin city. He chased his hat into the road and was run down. witnesses say the car could not be stopped in time. He was taken to Lordsburg Hospital with a broken leg and bruises.

University debaters pass through Lordsburg on trip

Professor T. M. Pearce of the University of New Mexico led two famed students, Jack Watson and Gerald Webb, en route to the University of California for an upcoming debate. The group praised Lordsburg’s prosperity and planned to return to the bustling town.

Lackland Returns From Scouting Trip

Major Thos. G. Lackland, local representative of the P O B Development Co and the Animal Company, returned from a several days scouting trip to mining properties in Paradise, Steins, White Signal, Burro Mountains and surrounding areas. An experienced mining man and oil operator, he previously held extensive holdings in Mexico before World War I service.

County Track and Field Meet Set for May Fourth in Lordsburg

Hidalgo County grade schools schedule their first meet in Lordsburg on Saturday May 4 inviting all eligible entrants. Events cover sprints distance races broad jumps relay races high jump and field events across Class A B and C divisions with entry limits per school and prizes including cups medals and ribbons funded by gate receipts and local business.

Sunday afternoon in Lordanburg a series of five car crashes occurred in a traffic jam near High and Sixth streets. A Studebaker tipped over after a collision with Eleanor Puller’s Dodge, driven as a Thorn family car, injuring no one, while the Scofield party from Cave Creek escaped unhurt.

Priceless Curio Given to Mrs W H Marble

Gilbert Woodside of Separ found a wooden formation around a stone resembling a hand used for grinding corn. He donated the artifact to Mrs. Wm. Marble, who hopes to exhibit it publicly. The item ties to Lordsburg’s fiftieth anniversary celebrations. Gilbert is a Lordsburg High School sophomore aged twelve.

In a letter to the Chamber of Commerce secretary Adjutant General W G Halthusen approves Citizen Military Training Camps. They will be held in the eighth corps area covering Arizona Colorado New Mexico Oklahoma and Texas in June July and August. Open to 17 to 24 year old men of good character and fitness.
