Grant County Six-Team Baseball League Formed

The Grant County six team league includes Lordsburg and opens at Central Stadium on June 21. Bearcats roster in progress as tryouts continue and H F Erhardt along with Ed Allen oversee organizational setup for the first game next Monday. Schedule details appear elsewhere on the page.

Wool Growers Form Marketing Association In Animas Valley

Large wool growers met at the Dunagan ranch in the Animas Valley to organize a wool marketing association. County Agent Gleason spoke on sheep care and wool grading with plans to pool interests and sell memberships, elect a committee, and inspect a herd of 60 registered rams for purchase.

Youngster’s Arm Broken in Short Fall

Sterling Brown seven year old son of Mr and Mrs Kart Brown suffered a broken arm in a yard accident Monday afternoon. He was sitting on a barrel when it toppled trapping his arm. Rushed to the hospital an X-ray showed the break and the arm set. He is recovering at home.

Win. M. Townsend, manager of the Townsend Chevrolet Co, will manage the new Hiller A Walker service station opposite the post office, ready to open in a few days. He will move tire stock and accessories to the new station while continuing to operate the Chevrolet agency independently.

Ninth annual New Mexico Federation of Women’s Clubs meet

Mrs A L Green and Mrs Lyman W Gleason attended the ninth annual conversion of the Second District in Deming on the 12th and 13th of the month. An art exhibit featured a Santa Fe artist. Mrs John Seeker Jr of Belin was elected president. Banks Austin of Lordsburg was named treasurer and A J L Green was chairwoman. Next year the gathering will be in Albuquerque.

Service Barber Shop Moves to New Location

A deal was closed this week to relocate the Service Barber Shop managed by Mr Morrisie to the Johnson building now under remodeling. O D Talbot of Las Cruces will install pool hall equipment, giving the barber shop a small front space. Move to occur once the building is ready.

Two Men Taken to Santa Fe Penitentiary

Deputy Sheriff H McKeel went to Santa Fe to deliver two prisoners to the Blate penitentiary. M J Flynn and Warren Bert, who robbed two roomers at the Hollow House, pled guilty before Judge Duniton and received from one to three years. After the robbery, local officers pursued Flynn and Bert into Arizona where they pleaded guilty.

Luncheon Club Sees Good Attendance at Manhattan Cafe

The Business and Professional Ven's Luncheon Club met at noon Tuesday at the Manhattan Cafe with a strong turnout. Henry Long chaired a profitable session featuring talks by J. Sharp evangelist W. D Hadwin Chauvet of Christ pastor McGee mining engineer and J. Hugh Cooper from Silver City, all visiting the club. The group spoke of progress and bright prospects for the New Mexico region. Thirty Million Feet Gas Well Struck Near Fort Stockton

O J Perren and Harry L Husemann struck a gas well near Fort Stockton Texas with a capacity about thirty million feet. They plan to pipe the gas twenty one miles to Fort Stockton and Alpine, highlighting regional oil field expansion and prospects for wealth in the southwestern United States.

Cantata Presented to Deming Citizens

The community chorus presented the cantata Habbon at the church Sunday drawing an attentive audience in the newly opened church. Mrs G Jome directed the chorus with C Poller at the piano. After the performance, a banquet followed in the recreation hall and plans were announced to perform again with the Deming choral club next year.

Methodist to Start Drive for Funds

The quarterly conference of the Methodist Church in session on Tuesday night voted unanimously for a building program. The pastor John and Mrs. pastor were present. The conference authorized the pastor to appoint a building committee and named W. Small, GP Jeffus, and Leane Van Meter. The committee will investigate probable cost and determine how much money can be raised to support the building program.

The University of Arizona baseball team from Tucson visited the city en route to Las Cruces for a three game series with the Aggies of State College. A brief layover allowed meals in Lordsburg and Chamber of Commerce Secretary Holt photographed the players.

Lease Vendome Hotel by Mr and Mrs C Caroon

Mr and Mrs C Caroon of Piver City have leased the Vendome hotel and will take over management in May. They plan a complete renovation to make it a first class homelike place for travelers and the touring public. Mrs Carson is a former manager of this hotel and well known in Lordsburg hotel circles.

Camp Fire Girls Begin Camping Trip to Cave Creek

Last Saturday at nine in the morning the Cheskamay Camp Fire Girls and younger group departed for Cave Creek. The group included Misses Widdingtion Alexander Johnston Johnson Mawyer Fisher Gale Hothetein Landry Laurinas Wright Mor row Conner Ball Pendleton Conner Austin Vaiily Johnson Fuller Scott Nicholson Hill Hughes Johnson. After two hours of rough travel they reached camp, erected tents, and settled into camp life with cooks and dishwashers duties. They danced and told stories at Malone's pavilion and later explored Crystal Cave before a noon dinner. The entry closes with the song Dear Old Lordsburg. Florence Joanson, Scribe.
