Lordsburg School Board selects Alley and Associates as architect

Lordsburg School Board in a special session chose Alley and Associates as architect for the high school renovation after reviewing Nims Calvanti and Associates. Superintendent DeFoor checked Alley’s prior work in Las Cruces Deming Carlsbad T or C and Ruidoso. Bond approval in early fall dictates payment. failure means no payment for preliminary work. A special meeting is set for Tuesday April 29 at 7:00 PM in the Lordsburg board room.

Board meeting outlines bond issue proposal and staff changes

Quinn and Company will outline their bond proposal at the May 6 board meeting. The board discussed a regional education alliance as a unified front against the legislature. Resignations were accepted for Gail Jones, Margaret Levine, and Empida Medina. Stephan Rickman was offered a mathematics computer literacy teaching contract at DTMS. The AARP will meet at 2 PM April 28 at the Civic Center with Probate Judge John Fleming speaking on Probate and Wills. Rickman is a GMT ENMU graduate in mathematics and computer science.

Second Regatta Set For May 3

The second Y gatta Regatta yachting event will be held Saturday May 3 according to spokesman Harvey Lang. Charter members of the Regatta decided no single organization or individual would be responsible for this years festivities.

Governor Toney Anaya proclaims May 5 through 9 as New Mexico Bank Week to honor the state’s banks. The NM Bankers Association notes 95 banks operate in New Mexico with assets totaling 9.4 billion dollars and deposits of 8.1 billion.

No School Monday in Lordsburg due to staff development

Lordsburg schools will be closed on Monday April 28 for teacher education activities. Local staff will join work sessions led by New Mexico Department of Education personnel, with classes resuming Tuesday. The Lordsburg Cancer Support Group meets May 7 at 4 PM at Hidalgo Medical Complex.

Lordsburg residents are urged to attend a child safety seminar on May 3, 1986, at 9 30 A M. The session covers stranger danger, the buddy system, and safety rules to help parents and children stay alert and prepared.

Patton Turns 93 With Red Rock Birthday Tributes

Clem Patton of Red Rock celebrated his 93rd birthday on Monday April 21. He received a greeting card from President Ronald Reagan and wife Nancy. A hunter and outdoorsman, he traps and hunts locally, fishes the Gila River in summer, mends fences, tends cattle, and chops wood for his fires. He lives alone despite four children Richard Joe and Edward of Red Rock and Dorothy Mae of Silver City. He declined offers to move in, saying he will when old. A past Liberal want ad he ran offered a hint of his humor.

Vehicle Recovered South Of The Border

Sheriff Billy Darnell reports that on Saturday April 12 Allen Wilkens was robbed at knifepoint of wallet valuables keys and his Ford Bronco. The car was recovered in Mexico after cooperation from locals and released to Wilkens following negotiations. Several others faced charges including warrants parole violations possession of stolen property marijuana DWI disorderly conduct and stolen vehicle cases.

City of Lordsburg Seeks Vandalism Clarity and Clean-Up Help

The city reports lights at Little League Park were vandalized last week forcing a reallocation of funds from baseball gear to repairs. A $250 reward is offered for information leading to arrests and convictions, with civil action possible for cost recovery.
