Child Identification Clinic Planned at Civic Center
The Hidalgo Sheriff Department will host a Children Identification Clinic this Saturday May 3 at the Civic Center. Doors open 9 30 A M and the clinic runs until all children present are processed. Volunteers from the sheriff's department and youth groups assist.

Great Seal Replica Endures The Seasons
John Schimmel created a stone chip and cement replica of the Great Seal of the United States in Hidalgo County. The 5 by 5 foot slab shows 13 stars, 13 stripes, 13 leaves, olives, and arrows with the missing scroll side. Civilians have vandalized part of the seal but local watchers support moving it to the courthouse lawn as a companion to the Veteran's monument.

Ralph Backer 64 died April 25 at Mimbers Memorial Hospital in Deming New Mexico He was born April 30 1921 in El Paso Texas and moved to Lordsburg in 1930 He had lived in Deming since 1983 and belonged to the Disabled Veterans Survivors include his wife Jewel Backer of Deming his mother Goldie Backer Yocky of Silver City a daughter Bettie Marie Ricky of McMinnville Oregon a brother Alfred Backer of Deming and a sister Mildred Jones of Deming He was preceded in death by his father Final resting place Fort Bayard National Cemetery on April 28 1986

Southwest Terminal Corporation completed a 4,000,000 gallon petroleum storage and distribution terminal in Road Forks New Mexico at the I-10 and State 80 junction.
