FBI Conference in Silver City on Interstate Transport of Stolen Property
An FBI conference on interstate transportation of stolen property was held April 23 at the county courthouse in Silver City with local officers including Sheriff E. Warkson Undersheriff Hugh Pact Chief Lalo Sanchez and patrolmen Basil Millican and Jesus Estrada. The gathering was moderated by Assistant Special Agent in Charge Gebhardt from the Albuquerque office. The discussion covered federal help available to local law enforcement for interstate crimes and noted more than 150 such conferences scheduled nationwide in 1958.

Awards Night Honors Hidalgo County 4-H Members and Leaders
Hidalgo County 4-H members and leaders attended an awards night at the Legion Hall in Lordsburg Virden and Animas groups were acknowledged for year pins and 4-H club activities. The program opened with a pledge led by Lordsburg and songs led by Sandra Virden et al. Pins were awarded to multiple members for second and third years and books were submitted to the extension office.

City Council Opposes RR Crossing Closure and Approves Bond Plan
The City Council passed a resolution opposing Southern Pacific Railroad closing a depot crossing. It approved a $60,000 revenue bond for new van lines end of the 1955 issue to satisfy insurance requirements. Final street lighting approval came from the State Board of Finance. A contract with Community Public Service Co. funds gas at cost with six percent interest and CPS gas payments. The council also authorized Code and Code of Las Cruces to audit the 1957 58 books, to be completed by May 5.
