A large group of Lordsburg golfers enjoyed perfect weather Sunday at the Ft Bayard Golf Tournament. Rex Kipp and Rodney Poindexter won first prizes, with consolation prizes going to Peter Chase and John Roberson. Lions Hear District Governor Speak Here Tuesday Evening
Jim Neleigh of Las Cruces district governor of Lions International spoke to about fifty Lions at the Lordsburg Woman's Club. He announced the district convention in Ruidoso on June 1 and 2 and urged attendance. Neleigh noted New Mexico has 39 clubs and around 200 members and praised the Lordsburg Club's activity. Tom Mayfield chairs the committee for local representation at the convention.

Franz S. Blue of the Bureau of Land Management announced the Lordsburg Prisoner of War Camp surplus property sale. The April 21 deadline for Letters of Intent has passed, but bids from Veterans Emergency Housing Certifiers and Non-certifiers remain due by 10 am May 1. Cloverdale Woman Wins Honors At Bisbee Pageant
Cloverdale resident Mrs. William Cowan won the Queen of the Pageant of Progress in Bisbee Arizona in a photo finish when ballots opened Saturday night. The 22 year old horsewoman, daughter of Ben Robertson and Mrs Robert Robertson of Cloverdale New Mexico, attended Douglas schools and International Business College in El Paso. She was crowned at a Lowell Woman's Club dance and later served cake at the American Legion home. Sponsored by Mule Mountain Horsemen's Association, she is the daughter in law of Senator Ralph Cowan and was accompanied by her husband Bill Cowan and her mother Mrs Ben Robertson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in Tooele Utah for Joseph Robert Bitchell born October 6 1872 in Ophir Utah. Burial followed at Mount Olivet Cemetery Salt Lake City with survivors including two brothers William Bithell of Salt Lake City and Thomas Bithell of Idaho Falls and local relatives Mrs Hugh Hullinger of Utah and Mrs Parley Bryan of Tooele.
