Springtime Tea Honors Mrs Scofield at Brown House

Mrs Harold Scofield State President of the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs was honored Sunday April 13 at Mrs C L Brown’s home with a springtime tea. Receiving line included Mrs Scofield Mrs Luella Clark and Mrs Alton Powell. Music by Mrs T B Williams and area youths featured piano solos a piano duet saxophone duet and a read of A Small Boy’s Troubles. Seventy five guests attended between three and six with arrangements led by Mrs Alan Koff and a decorated Tea room by Mrs J R Poindexter Homer Brooks and George Eddy.

City Council Defeats Move to Restore Angle Parking

A large turnout of business people and residents packed City Hall as the council rejected a motion to rescind parallel parking on Railroad Avenue. The vote split along supporters and opponents with no change to the current system planned for now, while the chamber of commerce pledged support for the majority proposal.

The district governor of Lions International will make an official visit to the Lordsburg Lions Club Tuesday evening. President C. B. Austin announced the event at the club luncheon meeting.

Hidalgo Garage Named Buick Dealer Here

Hidalgo Garage has been named the authorized Buick dealer in Lordsburg by A A Powell manager. J A Skillman district manager for Buick Motor Company set up the agency here Tuesday and said Buick distribution will be limited until October. The garage is run by Powell and Earle Kerr with Powell promising a formal dealership announcement later.

Young People Urged to Enter Essay Contest

Mrs. David E. Moore reminded members of First Baptist Church to enter an essay contest about "What Christ can mean to the home." The winner receives an expense paid trip to the Baptist Associational Camp at Glenwood. Essays of 50 words or less must include the writer’s name and age and be mailed by the May 1 deadline.

Welfare Agency Sets New Office Hours Statewide

Governor Mabry ordered new welfare office hours announced by Hidalgo County director Mrs Rufus Graham. Effective April 14 the offices will open 8 30 a m and close at 1 to 5 p m Mondays through Fridays with Saturdays closed.
