G. Richards of Rodeo has been elected to membership in the American Angus Association at St. Joseph Missouri. Bratcher secretary announces the membership as among those granted to breeders of registered Aberdeen Angus in the United States during the past period.
Two children aged 3 and 4 died when a frame house about three miles north of Duncan caught fire. Grandmother Mrs. Jesusita Sanchez and Mrs. Raimono Alvarez head the family. a passerby Tried to rescue but was driven back by flames. Sanchez suffered burns and smoke inhalation. she was treated as fair at Morenci Hospital.
Miss Helen Stephanie Chase, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Chase of Lordsburg, led Easter Sunday worship at Stephens College Chapel as student liturgist alongside two faculty members. The senior helped with Easter week communion and sunrise services, serving a campus ecumenical congregation of about 300.
Nineteen New Mexico Indians will join the American Indians Performing Arts Festival April 22 to 27. Senator Joseph M. Montoya announced the visit and luncheon on April 22, hosted by Senator and Mrs. Fred R. Harris. Participants include Art Bowman Lula Largo Taos John Romero Jr. Jemez and others from Fort Wingate San Juan Santa Fe and Nambe. The Bureau of Indian Affairs sponsors the week long festival with Institute of American Indian Arts directing 90 dancers from across the continent.
Juarez Race Track begins its grand weekend with a 12 race program on Saturday April 24 1965 wagering over 6 million dollars spent on the Taj Mahal of Racing. Inauguration and International stakes offer 5000 added purses drawing top thoroughbreds and a large international crowd.
On Wednesday night April 28 Colonel Condee C. Nason from HQ 4th U. S. Army will inspect Btry C 2nd AW Bn SP 200th Army during the annual Inspector General Inspection. The drill runs 1830 to 2130 hours at the local National Guard Armory. All National Guard members should attend. uniform is Khakis boots with trousers bloused pistol belts and helmet liners.
The Easter Star chapter hosts an all you can eat pancake breakfast at the Masonic Lodge Monday April 26 from 7 to 10 a.m. Tickets are on sale to support the chapter funds after buying a new piano. Everyone is invited.
The second annual Cotton Extravaganza Style Show will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium featuring 100% cotton designs modeled by adults juniors and children. First place winners advance to the district contest in Deming. A Calvacade of Cottons showcasing 1965 fabrics and patterns will accompany the show. The Cavalcade is a loan service by the National Cotton Council and McCall's patterns, sponsored by the Cotton City Sew-So Extension Club. Refreshments will follow.

Range ripping begins on 5 400 acres in Las Cruces District BLM with Don Thomas of El Paso awarded the contract. Four thousand acres on the J. R. Walter Ranch Hidalgo County and 1 400 on the Eldo Lewis Ranch north of Dell City Texas. The practice, done contour with a 36 inch steel tooth behind a crawler, reduces soil crust and increases rainfall infiltration and vegetation.
Salvador M. Ramos, 25, was killed when a rock slab caved in at the Banner Mine about 2 am Sunday. Juan Guzman survived with minor injuries. Ramos was born September 23, 1939 in Parral Chihuahua Mexico. Funeral services were held at Heather Chapel and burial planned in Los Angeles on April 22, 1996.
M. H. Brooks was elected president of the Lordsburg Lions Club at the annual election of officers Tuesday. Don Weckworth was first vice president, Chuck Height second, Ralph Burton Height third, with Height reelected tail twister and Gilbert Buvens as Lion tamer. Directors chosen were Victor Treay, Dr. George Smith, Felix Gauthier Jr., and John Schimmel. Officers and directors begin July first. An entertainment segment featured a high school girls trio Viane Lesly Nancy Bowman Patti Warren with pianist Lynn Williams.
National Library Week runs April 25 to May 1 in Lordsburg. The local library will give visitors bookmarks. A window display in the business district is prepared by the Mormon Ladies Committee led by Mrs. Farneworth, Mrs. Richins, Jr., and Mrs. Jensen.
