The town notes the acting police commissioner role under the new chief, praising his work since rejoining the force. The newly elected Stevens council met on the second Monday after the election and organized the city government. John A. Anderson was named City Attorney by unanimous vote and Albert M. Stevens was appointed Police Judge. Robert Harwood was elected president pro tem, and Mayor Alan A. Koff was sworn in as part of the orderly session.
Eugene Noce was installed as commander of V F W Post 3099 Lordsburg for 1960 61 in ceremonies at El Charro. Temperature readings were recorded at the Southern Pacific Railroad site. Readings document daily measurements and show reported values for surrounding infrastructure and facilities.
A New Mexico State Highway Department survey team led by George Heller will survey two Interstate 10 extensions in the Deming and Lordsburg areas for about 30 days starting Tuesday April 26. The plans call for a ten mile survey east from Lordsburg toward the Hidalgo Grant County line and a 15 mile stretch from the Grant Luna County line east toward Deming. The work will follow the general path of U S 70 80 and avoid property damage as warned by C H Muchmore.
The Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary met on April 13 at Mrs Goldie Backer’s home. A pot luck luncheon was held for Dorothy Potter Hannah Jones Susan Brown and Marjorie McCarty. The group will sell Forget-Me-Not flowers on April 23. The next meeting is May 18 at Hannah Jones’s home.
