Polio Vaccine Given to 350 in Fidalco County UK

In Fidalco County UK a polio vaccination drive reached 350 children with minimal distress. Dr John C Mill district health officer led the effort with nurses and volunteers from the County Health staff and local PTA. Two parents refused and ten children were absent. roughly 75 others in nearby towns also received shots this week.

Maverick Booster Club Forms Aims In 1953 Community Support

In fall 1953 Lordsburg residents organized the Maverick Booster Club to aid the high school athletic program. It aims to raise funds to transport teams to out of town games and improve facilities, act as gatekeepers and advance ticket sales, and promote community interest without influencing school policy.

Boy Wounded by Accidental Pistol Discharge Near Camp Grocery

A 16 year old, George Crossland, was shot in the neck at 10:30 Tuesday morning in the Camp Grocery on Highway 176 north of the underpass. Willam Gonzales, 16, an employee, showed a .32 caliber pistol kept at the store. mishandling it caused the bullet to pass through Crossland’s neck but the wound was not serious.

Lordsburg Falls to Deming in 15–8 Opener

Lordsburg baseball opened the 1955 season at home against Deming and lost 15 to 8. Kenchey and DeLa Rosa pitched for Lordsburg with DeLa Rosa charged with the loss as Deming’s Pachecho went the distance, striking out Lordsburg batters. Lordsburg met Fort Bayard next Sunday.

Golf Association outlines summer meets for Southwestern New Mexico

The Southwestern New Mexico Golf Association plans a season opening at Silver City on April 24 with six towns represented Lordsburg Hurley Fort Bayard Deming and Silver City. The schedule runs April 24 May 22 June 19 July 17 and August 14. Entry is 2.50 includes lunch. non-contestants pay 1.25 with caddies urged to bring lunches.

Silver City Wins Triangular Track Meet Saturday

In a triangular meet among Cobre Hurley Silver City and Lordsburg held last Saturday, Silver City led with multiple first places and overall victory. Lordsburg, the sole Class 8 school, claimed three firsts including the quarter mile and mile relays, plus Oscar Diaz in the broad jump. Junior Morales placed third in the javelin with 134 feet 4 1 inches as Lordsburg sought to close the gap. Coach Goodman notes continued improvement as time goes on.
