Lordsburg officials will request a formal opinion from the New Mexico Finance Department on the legality of a city ordinance granting Municipal Judge Jesus Estrada a $100 monthly raise. Copper Miners Seek Pay And Benefits In New Talks
Copper unions representing about 26 100 workers push for an added 17 an hour in pay and benefits over three years after a Phoenix conference. Current wages average 10 23 an hour plus fringe benefits totaling about 16 50. Wrongful death suit filed in Albuquerque over 1977 fatal accident
The wife of Karl Grauel, a German worker killed at a Hidalgo County copper smeltering project in 1977, sues Brown and Root Inc, Phelps Dodge Corp and Leavesley McCollum Corp in U S District Court Albuquerque for 400000 dollars. Grauel died April 12 1977 after falling through a three foot hole while inspecting acid brick. The suit argues three foot holes in the work area were a dangerous practice.
