Census forms pickup notice for April enumerators

Local residents who have not received their census questionnaires are asked to notify the post office and hold their forms until the census enumerator collects them. Enumerators will visit homes in April and carry identification. Forms are not to be mailed. In Hidalgo County, low population areas, enumerators will pick up the forms.

Commissioners Take No Action Tuesday on Hidalgo County Suit Counter Proposal

County commissioners tabled a proposed Glen Acres counter settlement involving Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino Drives near Lordsburg. The plan would gravel and grade temporarily, pave later, and allow cost recovery from abutting landowners, notably Glen Acres Inc. The case, filed November 1979, seeks paving and about 75,000 in damages. Also, hospital indigent bill recovery talks with Hillcrest General Hospital progressed, with plans for a three member joint board and budget allocations.

Increased Cost Of Police Protection Explained At Meet

A Lordsburg representative learned from Hidalgo County officials that several factors drive the coming year’s police protection price rise. Mayor Pro-tem Stephen Hill asked about the $50,000 increase over last year’s charge of about $99,000 under a joint powers agreement expiring in June. Sheriff Gene Moore noted omissions in the original contract such as car insurance, officer liability, and unemployment insurance, with rising gasoline and other costs. He emphasized the sheriff’s department does not profit from the agreement and any unspent funds would be returned to the city.

BLM Mobile Office Schedules for Lordsburg Deming and El Paso

The Bureau of Land Management announces a mobile office tour visiting Lordsburg on April 15 Deming on April 16 and El Paso on April 18. The Las Cruces-Lordsburg unit will operate 9 a.m. to end of day at KOA grounds Lordsburg and Deming and at Sunrise Shopping Center El Paso with maps booklets and brochures on wilderness study recommendations environmental statements and public land activities.

Lordsburg budget talks map 1980-81 needs and police options

Lordsburg School District prepares for 1980-81 budget as Superintendent Joel Price notes a 14 percent state equalization gain from $1,145 to $1,250 per unit. He warns reductions or no improvements would be needed and cites no unbudgeted funds. The Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers program held its second meeting at the Chamber of Commerce to finalize the local chapter.
