The Lordsburg community approved a 6000 bond issue by a wide margin led by a female election board. Voters hid ballots. one man publicly opposed the measure. The new school building is hailed as a state worthy project advancing local progress.
A sunrise Easter service will be held at the 85 Mine site with a large cross on the summit visible from the highway. Members of all churches and the public are warmly welcome to attend this community event hosted by the Mining Company.
Charles W. Botsford chief geologist of Inspiration Consolidated Copper died from a fainting spell at his Inspiration Arizona home. He had just returned from California and had worked with the company since 1919. His widow survives.
A large crowd enjoyed a literary society event praised for its quality with many students and local performers. The Sides ranch dance under Mr and Mrs Francis Ammons drew attendees. Sunday School attendance is rising with new literature and weekly sermons by Mr Brunk.
S. P. engineers are running lines with an object in view of placing a subway west of the little park. The note hints at ongoing work and possible future underground development in the area.
The C A magnates traveling by special Pullman arrived Tuesday afternoon to inspect the mine in apple pie condition. Directors from multiple cities joined President Gordon Campbell and others as they toured underground and praised Balmforth. Supt. Balmforth and his wife hosted a luncheon before the group motored to Bisbee.
Mr and Mrs Walter Sullivan run the Commercial Hotel at Deming, touted as No 1 with 18 rooms. The ad urges readers to visit and bend their friends there, claiming the hotel offers sleep quality equal to any hotel or home.
At a April 5 1927 convention in Lordsburg New Mexico Pyra mid Lodge No 23 unanimously adopted a memorial to James Robert Ownby. The resolutions express sympathy and order mourning emblems on the altar and a record page in his memory with a copy to the family.
Middle Animas and Lower Animas gain exposure as Cloverdale weighs community voices. Reverend Brunk of Animas holds well attended services at the school house while Sunday School thrives. Mrs. Joe Yarbrough hosted a venie and marshmallow roast at the picnic grounds.
Supt Houser reports Lordsburg City Schools followed Arbor Day direction planting thirteen trees as part of a progressive program. Nine truckloads of dirt filled four by four feet holes, cottonwood trees planted with a six foot fence. gratis water and janitors to water year round. Bond issue for remodeling high school carried about 25 to one.
Douglas Arizona prepares for an Easter Sunday auto race with Jimmie Handolph predicting a fierce six-event card led by a 25 mile championship for Arizona and New Mexico. The Bisbee trophy, a copper inlayed prize, plus $1 admission, 2:30 start, and free parking headline a high profile event with veteran drivers Harper Randolph Anderson Granders among entrants.
A Sunday evening pageant at the Baptist Church titled The Triumph of Love will depict the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ. The production aims for a period setting with extended seating to accommodate a large crowd. No preaching, the pageant lasts one to two hours and free will offerings cover incidental expenses.
Miss Margaret Holt became the first Pythian Sister initiated at the new Temple on Monday night. Knights C. C. Fuller and W. M. Townsend joined as sisters as part of the ceremony. A luncheon followed the event and the Knights received the fourth degree. Mr. and Mrs. Farle Kerr were in El Paso last week.
Tonight and Friday the Star Theatre features Hoot Gibson in Flaming Frontier a Western drama. Next Tuesday April 19 the Tri angle Club presents Stella Dallas starring Belle Bennett Douglas Fairbanks Jr Ronald Colman Alice Joyce and other stars. The Club promotes attendance to enjoy a fine screen attraction and aid the club.
Mr. Peterson of Superior and Mr. Crawford formed the Pinal Oil Company about six months ago. A derrick is up and a 600 foot hole is in the ground near Bowie in the Bowie Oil field. Gas and oil showings have occurred despite delays from quicksand and casing issues. More test wells are anticipated in the area.

Mr and Mrs J H Waid of New York traveling with three sons and three daughters in law and a three month old grandchild were involved in a motor mishap at Rodeo as the Stork arrived. Dr Crocker rushed to Rodeo aiding the baby Catheryn Ward born on the trip. The family plans to continue to California once the infant is older, and the camp owner has named a cabin Cathryn in honor of the first New Yorker born at his Rodeo Tourist Camp.
Supt. Summers W B Summers Jr and Mrs Summers travel to Columbia Missouri for medical courses at the University of Missouri. Mrs Summers will study pipe organ and advanced music. Our friend A P Levitt of Animas recovers from pneumonia at DeMoss Hospital.
J L Wells urged widening the Shakespeare avenue ally from railroad to court house square nearly twofold at a luncheon club. He linked a beautified court house area to civic pride and cited Douglas as a model. Other speakers supported park plans for court house square with Gleason to supervise.
New Mexico poet laureate and noted blind composer and singer Elizabeth Garrett appeared at the Star Theatre on Friday night under the Lordsburg Woman's Club. She sang in multiple languages and performed her own elite song, drawing a large audience and praise from community members. Garrett stayed with the Gaes family for several days.
The Church of Christ schedules a Sunrise Prayer service at 6 A M, Bible School at 10, Lord's Supper and sermon at 11 with Is There a Resurrection, a 1 PM basket dinner and business meeting, PS BE meet at 7 PM, and an 745 PM evening program including hymns, announcements, and pageant. The New Testament Ladies meet today, and members are urged to attend all services led by W Bailon.
James W. Darley arrives seven pounds at Lordsburg hospital. Parents say he will likely be a lively child like his father and should carry his name Jim after his dad.

Miss Appel led Campfire Girls for a two day river outing above Red Fork. A party of fifteen girls traveled Friday morning and returned Saturday afternoon.
Jack Warren brings a standard oil rig from Texas to Lordsburg with four seasoned drillers from Pennsylvania West Virginia Kansas and Maine ready to spud a near town well. The derrick costs 84000 and initial hole will be 18 inches with possible depth to 500 16. Prospective prospects look favorable according to veteran oil men.
Former Silver City girl Dewey McGrath Culberson has gained notice in Los Angeles as a voice student. She appeared in recital with sister Ida McGrath at the Los Angeles Conservatory of Music, earned a teaching certificate in June, and sang at a musical with Dr. William Chapman of New York. She plans a concert on April 5 at the Theatre Arts Auditorium with Halion baritone Joseph Lombardo and will join the Los Angeles Grand Opera Association next season under Madame Prigentsia Cuerrers.
Doris Manning reports lively Valedon community notes. Ernest Lovell of Santa Rita visited with family over Sunday. Mr and Mrs Bekert returned from a brief visit with old friends. The Valedon Ladies' Meeting Club gathered at Mrs George Adkinson's. Hazel and Florence Adkinson served a delicious luncheon. Harold Schofield chauffeured his mother and relatives to Tucson for the weekend to visit Bertha Schofield at the University there. Weekly Wednesday singing and prayer at the Red Cross Building. Tuesday Sewing Club met at Mrs Jack Welch's. lilac arrangements and a delightful luncheon featured. Robert Day and Chapin Wiley of Carlisle were guests at the Adkinson home.
At Monday night council, Frank Corbeil was appointed water chief filling a post long held by P M Lackie who moves to different duties. The vote and remarks praised Corbeil’s qualifications as the city eyes improved water services.
