Funeral services for Edgar Malott

Funeral services were held for Edgar Malott at the Chapel for Edgar Malott who died April 1st at Hidalgo Hospital. Rev. Arthur Shaw led the service with burial in Mountain Cemetery. Malott, a retired school man, served seven years as president and secretary of Lordsbury Liberal Publishing, with attendees including relatives and out of town guests.

Oldtime Lordsburg Resident Recalls Early Days in Territory

Mrs. Bert Slinkard of Lordsburg 84 recalls frontier life from 1882 in Kingston Hillsboro and Magdalena where husband died in 1940. She notes Indians for scalps and the 1880s murder of Judge McComas, meeting an older McComas son later, and changes from Silver City to File Canyon status. Cancer Drive Underway Across New Mexico April Fund Drive

Work Begins on GOC Watch Tower in Lordsburg

Construction starts on a Ground Observer Corps post observation tower at Railway Boulevard and Main Street Lordsburg. Supervisor C R Simpkins and chief observer Mrs Scherling oversee staff selections for near term watches with plans for around the clock operation and Coast Center instructors from Tucson. The city provides site and financial support for the tower project with a broad roster of named observers and local cooperation.

Little League Set to Start as City Schools End

More than 100 youngsters aged eight to 12 sign up for Lordsburg Little League baseball. Teams will be drawn soon, with practice to begin before the school term ends and games slated after. The old high school softball field hosts games, with other diamonds for practice. Commissioners led by Leslie Harvell outline minimal sponsor costs, uniforms from the recreation fund, and a revived Lordsburg Softball Association pledging up to 500 for gear. A Monday night meeting at City Hall invites interested sponsors and players.

Lordsburg Softball Association Revived

The Lordsburg Softball Association, dormant for two years, was revived at a meeting last Thursday. Leo Cohen named chairman and John F. Robertson secretary treasurer. others serving include Henry Diaz, Fay Powell and Leslie Harvell. The group agreed to help finance Lordsburg Little League up to $590 until it becomes self supporting.

Revival Services at First Methodist Church Announced

The Rev. Arthur Shaw announces revival services at First Methodist Church starting Sunday. Each evening at 7:30 services run through Thursday with The Upper Room Communion service. All members and the public are invited to attend.

Revival at First Baptist Church in Lordsboro

The Rev. Joe B. Underwood, secretary of the Department of Evangelism, will lead a revival at First Baptist Church, Third and Animas Streets, Lordsboro, from April 14 to 21. Underwood began preaching at 15, pastored and served as a missionary in Brazil, and in 1956 became secretary of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. All members and friends are invited.
