Maxwell, chairman of the commissioners, reports sponsors contacted but no reply yet. New players registered, uniforms and equipment needed, training period before opening. Officials urge timely responses to ensure four teams form and a successful season with community support.
It is Girls' and Boys' State again. Delegates across the state have been elected by school faculties. In Lordsburg delegates have not yet been announced. The Liberal will release the names next week.
District three women’s clubs in Las Cruces set for Monday the 14th for an all day session. Delegates from Hidalgo County include Mrs. Brooks Virden Mrs. Bill Animas and Mrs. La Ver Merrell Lordsburg.
Frank Harenberg of Mountain States Telephone says the annual Book of Numbers edition will be released the week of July 2. Representatives will visit Lordsburg on Monday April 24 to help businessmen adjust yellow page listings before the June 18 deadline for the four color directory covering Lordsburg Silver City and Deming effective for one year.

Robert Swan Unit No. 30 of The American Legion met at the Legion Hall on Monday evening President Connie Sauvidao presided as plans for the 7th District convention to be held in Lordsburg April 26 2 were completed The Poppy Sale in May and the junior senior banquet were announced Refreshments were served by Mrs Saucedo and Mrs Eimer Jeunes
Mrs. Sam Gass is seriously ill in Deming Hospital. Details of her illness were not available at press time.
City Council awarded the West Main Street sidewalk job after sealed bids. Southwest Supply Co won with 356.40, ahead of H. Lumber Co and Edin Brown. Officials discussed replacing gas mains along A Street and Center Street with completion expected in about 90 days.
The WSCS of the First Methodist Church met at the home of Mrs. Emma Scofield with cohosts Mrs. Harry Gatusha and Miss Helen Chase. Mrs. C. C. Puller presided and named a nominating committee of Mrs. Olla Williams, Mrs. Jean Austin, and Mrs. W. Dettmann. Mrs. J. F. Whitmore led devotion with Miss Cora Glaze teaching the lesson. Coffee and pie were served.
Troop 122 met Monday night at Elks Hall with six boys present. Bob Corder assigned three jobs while Gary Rundies became quartermaster and James Murray and Car Odom served as Scout reporters. They studied compass readings and tenderfoot requirements. next meeting set for April 14 at 7 30 at the Elks Hall.

Mise Reba Smith state home management specialist won WM Hidalgo County April 2 and led training for 4-H leaders. At the Sage and Sand Extension Club meeting she demonstrated Window Treatments showing how drapery placement and spacing alter perceived window size. Attendees included Mrs. Herbert Felix and many local ladies. training to be expanded April 10 in Cotton City Community Building.
The Xi Phi chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at the Separ home of Mrs. David Warren Jr. last Thursday. Mrs. Frank Harenberg presented a friendship program as plans proceed for a May dance and the April 30 Founders Day banquet. New officers will be installed at the Founders Day banquet with Mrs. Gordon Willis as president and a slate including Mrs. Gene Noce vice president and others.
Officials from the New Mexico State Highway Department and the U S Bureau of Public Roads met Lordsburg with the Lordsburg Hidalgo County Chamber of Commerce to inspect the completed highway and discuss next steps. L D Wilson and others explained water intrusion caused base failure and possible dry mix issues. The Bureau had made progress payments. project acceptance remained unsettled as details circulated.
Mrs Mildred Smith selected as president of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha during a regular meeting held at Patsy Michaela’s home in Cotton City. Officers for the next year include Jewel Johnson vice president Bertha Koff corresponding secretary Eva Murray treasurer Hazel Kinkerna executive, with a $20 donation to the local dental clinic for children. Installation and Jewel Pin Ritual set for April 22 at Fannie Poindexter’s home.
