Work On Tannery Advances Rapidly Under County Oversight

County administrator WA McAndries expects federal tannery to be completed by about May 1. Santa Fe officials report 250000 cow hides ready to tan, with tanning duration estimated at two years as more hides are added daily. Water mains are being laid and adobes manufactured. Two 25 by 25 foot structures and an engine house will be erected between the main buildings, and many workers will be employed during construction and thereafter.

Spring Football Exhibition Between Silver City Mustangs and New Mexico Aggies

The Silver City Mustangs under Roy Brancheau meet the New Mexico Aggies in a spring game in Las Cruces Saturday. Roy Brancheau says the team is in good condition after six weeks of practice. Aggies coach Jerry Hines notes the exhibition will be watchable despite an uncertain starting lineup. Officials are Ric Roney referee Aca Porter umpire and Bob Carson head linesman. game starts at 2:40 PM.

Small Child Bitten by Dog Suspected Rabies in Lords Pure

The three year old daughter of tramer Heartheld of Cottage Camm was bitten by a dog last Monday. The dog later showed symptoms of rabies and its head was sent to the State Laboratory in Albuquerque for testing. Pasteur treatment was recommended for the child and residents urged to report suspicious animals to the County Agent to prevent spread.

The Lyons and Fitch Smelter will be erected and ready to receive ore by mid month as miners with small claims in the Gold Hill district begin hauling ore. The Indian Spriggs Mining Co. owns Elaine group and has been extracting ore, planning to increase once the smelter operates. The venture, tied to Lyons and Me, Piteh and acme high grade ore, is expected to provide lasting employment and boost local citizenship.

Judge George W. Hay handled numerous court matters this week sending Vaidore D. LaQ Sisto Medine and John Lawson to Santa Fe. Carring Morales was ordered to stay with Sheriff Conner for days.
