Broad Street residents discuss a $20,000 bond issue for a public schoolhouse. Advocates urge using local stone, heated ventilation, and sturdy design. Wm Auble's wheat shock struck by lightning and Chas Auble's cow killed. Clem Gardner’s threshing engine boiler collapsed during work for L Richmond. Threshing season active. wheat yields range 30 to 46 bushels per acre. Raion needed again.
The West Ridge community reports Mr Heyds barn burned Friday afternoon with 356 bushels of wheat 30 tons of hay and 50 or 60 bushels of oats lost plus a harness and sleigh. Insurance covered 500 on the building and 500 on contents but the loss exceeds policy. Neighbors and insurers settled promptly as the fire started from wheat stubble.
Miss Venable returns from a Chicago exhibit with praise for its lessons for school use. At the Irish school house on the Lake shore Dr Daily and Kev Bush spoke on the dangers of intoxicants. Riders from Ridgeville report plans to Chicago for the World’s Fair and praise for the Vulcan ship. A wheelmen center at O J Peck’s Hotel offers drinks meals and a windmill tank while five pipers performed at the Congregational church. Next Sunday missionary Ho O Gulick will speak on Japan after a youth program led by Miss Amy Saye and others.

Due to reduced business and distrust of the current administration the Lake Shore company begins staged layoffs from Monday July. In the city shops half of the car department workers will be laid off for a week, alternating with those kept on. In the machine shops two thirds of workers will be laid off with one third working the next week and the final third the following week, giving everyone one week of work in three. The policy aims to avoid mass dismissals and shows the company intends to rehire as business improves. Nickel Plate announces new passenger service and Fair tickets available through agents.
