Rape trial begins for former deputy Crausaz
In Lorain County, a jury heard opening statements in the rape case against former deputy Charles Crausaz, 52, of Columbia Township. The defendant faces felony counts of rape kidnapping and two strangulations and misdemeanors of domestic violence and weapons while intoxicated. The first witness, the alleged victim, testified about Crausaz returning from rehab on May 11 2024 and an assault the following day. The defense contends the encounter was consensual while Crausaz’s attorney notes the couple had a history of explicit acts and photos.
