Victim recalls 2024 stabbing. son hailed as hero in court

Holly Hall testified in Lorain County Common Pleas Court about Shawn Poe stabbing her at least 11 times on April 23 2024 inside their Columbia Township home. Her son Owen tackled Poe to prevent further harm. Poe pleaded guilty to attempted murder and related counts and was sentenced to 10 to 15 years.

Wellington man to be sentenced in child rape case

Edward L. Born Jr., 30, of Wellington, was found guilty Feb 4 by Lorain County jurors of eight felonies including five counts of rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition in a case involving a victim under 13. Sentencing set for 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. born faces life in prison and remains jailed without bond. The jury trial spanned Jan 30 to Feb 4, with offenses occurring July 4 to Oct 17, 2024. Police reports indicated social media messages and a hospital examination following the incident. Born was arrested Oct 21 and indicted Nov 27.
