Man Found Dead in Rumson Barn At Carton Estate

George Palu was arrested last night at Red Bank after snatching a handbag from Miss Bessie Loisel on a Jersey Central Traction Company car. He was taken to Red Bank, held at Town Hall, and given a morning hearing. Bail default sent him to Frenold for Grand Jury action. Miss Lohsen, daughter of Mrs. Martin Lohsen, Belford, noted as Middletown’s prettiest girl, was returning home with conductor Warnock and motorman Everson. Fred Swanson narrowly escaped death at the Rockwell avenue crossing on the New Jersey Southern line. His horse Victoria carriage was destroyed, and the horse was shot after a severe collision. Swanson and bystanders assisted. he survived with facial cuts and back pain. The owner, George A. Bergman, notified. The incident halted train service briefly as authorities documented the wreck.

Second Big Shark Caught In North Long Branch Nets
An eleven foot shark weighing about 800 pounds was hauled aboard by Captain John Hennesey’s crew at North Long Branch. Captain John Leather’s crew fought the shark until it was lassoed and secured, to be shipped to New York. It is the largest catch by the crew in fifteen years, following a twenty foot whale landed thirteen years ago.
