Polls closed for a noon recess with 681 votes cast across eleven districts in Long Branch. Total registration is 2267, meaning 1586 votes must come in by 7 pm to reach full registry amid expectations of a heavy post 5 o'clock turnout.
Monmouth Memorial Hospital auxiliary leaders plan a luncheon hosted by Mrs. William D. Marper with Mrs. Thomas N. McCarter outlining a plan of action. Auxiliaries exist in Long Branch Keyport Freehold Shrewsbury Asbury Park Red Bank Spring Lake and Belmar.
West End engine house held a social night with all company members present. Chief Birkenfeld, Deal Fire Department guests, and Mayor Van Dyke joined in music, speeches, and hospitality as Commissioner Arrowsmith praised service improvements.

The third victim of the street car strike rioting died at a hospital in Indianapolis. Laborer John Brogan succumbed after being wounded while watching clashes. Chauffeur Thomas Carleton was mortally wounded by a stray bullet in the neck as the attempt to run a street car failed when fifty policemen mutinied and refused orders.
The Monmouth Memorial Hospital Board of Governors holds its monthly meeting with routine business. Mrs. Henry Seligman’s resignation was not accepted. Miss M J Herries acts as superintendent in absence of Mrs Harper and Mrs Wilcox. Two internes resigned, leaving one. The hospital adds an artesian well and plans self water supply after year start. In Sea Bright the mayoral contest heats up between P Hall Packer and George W Elliott with 106 of 343 voters cast by noon. The incumb ent Elliott and Republican challenger Packer trade close wins in prior meetings. Local political chatter forecasts a big turnout and a tight finish.
Dr Howard B Reed son of Dr and Mrs James J Reed of Sea Bright suffered a nervous breakdown in Bermuda and is now in a private New York hospital with a brain tumor. His condition is critical and there is little hope for recovery though a fighting chance was once mentioned. Family and friends in Long Branch await further word.
One man died on 105th Street amid gang feuds during the New York City election day. District Attorney Whitman deployed hundreds of officers at polls as arrests mounted for Halloween pranksters and other disturbances.
George D Worthley aged 64 son of the late Mr and Mrs John Abbott Wortley prominent Red Bank citizen died suddenly in his Matawan office while his son was visiting. He had been in good health six months and left a heart attack. Survived by widow and son Washington CC. Funeral set for Wednesday at late residence with interment in Pair View Middletown Township. Nov 4. President Wilson left Washington for Princeton to cast his ballot and will return tonight.
A lively Red Bank council session featured a clash over a sprinkling tax and the eprick ling account. The measures to fund a new Relief Engine Company fire house were approved to bid, with nine paving bids reviewed for Bridge Avenue and related street concerns referred to the street committee.
American diplomatic chief in Mexico issues an unqualified denial of reports that the president ordered U S troops to withdraw. General Carranza opposes any move that could trigger a wider intervention and declares unity of all forces against invaders.
In Mexico City and Nogales on November 4, officials including Nelson O Shaughnessey and General Carranza dismissed any US demand for Huerta to resign. Secretary Bryan in Washington denied any ultimatum had been sent to Mexico while noting reports of dispatches but not an ultimatum. Diplomatic conferences with foreign envoys at the National Palace were to continue for several days.
Early this morning fire alarm box 81 at Ocean avenue and Broad way was pulled. Responders found no fire after surveying the area. A prior false pull from box 31 is noted and police warn of jail for the culprits. Earlier, a small brush fire near Sea View and Long Branch Avenues was put out by Daly hose company.
