Eatontown Fair a Big Success at Annual Event
The second annual fair of Hook and Ladder Company No 1 in Eatontown closed after a week of activity. Gross receipts reached about 750 dollars with expenses around 150. The Ladies Auxiliary led the effort, organizing booths for candy cakes and bread fancy articles a Klondike lemonade and more. The event in Joseph W Johnston’s Broad Street building featured a large dancing floor nightly and strong committee leadership. Proceeds are expected between 600 and 650 dollars led by Ada Nafew.

Auto Fire Sparks Unnecessary Alarm In Brighton Ave Garage

Fire alarm box 19 was rung before firefighters arrived. the car was moved outside and mud splashed on it as onlookers reacted. A West End chemical helped douse the blaze. a leaking carburetor and backfiring magneto wires caused smoke but little damage. Stewart, a guest at the Hollywood Hotel, planned to return to Philadelphia, while garage staffCleanup took hours. The alarm's necessity remains disputed.

Cycle Club Wins Endurance Race in Baltimore

Red Bank Statutory Charge Arrests Reported
Red Bank man George Stewart and Leonardo woman Mary McCue were arrested Saturday night on a statutory charge. Each was held on $800 bail, released on bonds, after a Sunday hearing before Recorder Harry Badeau. The offense occurred on the river bank near Rector Place, Red Bank, with witness Louis Frick present. Both suspects were reportedly under liquor’s influence. Stewart has prior police court appearances.

James Burke Sr Carriage Maker Dies of Ptomaine Poisoning
James Burke Sr prominent in Bergen County carriage trade died at his home 21 Morrell Street from ptomaine poisoning. Born February 22, 1833 in Youghal Ireland he came to the U.S. as a boy and worked with West Burke Co Englewood and later John Short West Long Branch. He served in the Confederate army, later wrote for trade papers, and was active in Democratic politics. Survived by son Alexander Burke and several other children including William T. Burke Henry W.
