Severe Lightning Strikes Hit Bayshore Homes in Monmouth County
Tuesday night storms caused extensive damage across the bayshore area. Mrs Belle Philip of Maharaj and Charles V Eastmond near Port Monmouth saw their houses struck by lightning. Woodwork and walls were torn, floodwaters rose, a bridge near the Layster homestead washed away, and orchards suffered heavy losses. A fish hawk nest in Port Monmouth toppled, killing two young hawks. A maple tree near St Marys Church in New Monmouth was split. Firemen’s Dance plans form in Deal as Elberon Engine Company hosts tonight at Deal Casino with Prof J Pitman West to lead a 24 piece program.

More than 1,200 attendees filled the Ocean Park Casino for the State Tubercular Exhibit second night with Dr Milton Knowlton delivering the talk on the White Plague aided by motion pictures. A security incident occurred when a visitor tried to mutilate a photograph, but officials prevented further damage. The event aims to spur public health improvements in Long Branch and educate on water filtration and disease prevention. Tonight Dr Knowlton will discuss How to Prevent the Spread of Tuberculosis with Edward R Slocum presiding.

Lightning strikes Red Bank store chimney causing minor damage
A thunderstorm at Red Bank last night struck the chimney of A L McQueen's grocery building at Shrewsbury and Locust avenues. The bolt damaged the chimney and a window shutter on the second floor but did not start a fire. Residents and a passerby reported fainting and a brief medical recovery. no serious damage to the grocery or living areas.

Strawride party braves rain to Long Branch
A group of youths from Oveanle and Red Bank rode a strawride last night. Weather forced the trip short from Asbury Park to Long Branch where they waited out the storm.
