Jury awards Patton $500 in damages in Fanshawe incident
In Freehold Judge Nelson Y. Dungan granted a $5,000 damage suit against William Fanshawe of Shrewsbury. The jury found $500 for Walter V. Patton against George Hughes, driver of the Fanshawe colt, for injuries from October 11, 1910, when Hughes' sulky shaft pierced Patton's chest. Hughes was not acting as an employee at the time. Patton, once residing here, was riding a motorcycle when injured. Not guilty verdicts were directed for Tony Mole in a slot machine case. Andrew McConnell, accused of atrocious assault, is being tried. witnesses described him as unsound-minded. The bullet wounded Mrs. McConnell in Ocean Grove. Judge Foster appointed A. J. Stokes to assist counsel. The case went to the jury shortly after 2 o'clock.
