The Red Bank ice carnival drew about 5000 spectators for afternoon events and 3000 on ice at night as Mort Pach and Benjamin Ford planned a repeat within two weeks if cold weather ails. Everett Wardell suffered a sprained left ankle in a two mile handicap, taken to headquarters.
The second afternoon session at American Art Galleries in New York saw Borden collection sales of 108 064 bringing two session total to 120 292 and grand art sale total to 1 365 017. Amphorae fetched 15 050 each and Duveen Brothers bought Ming dynasty vase for 12 000 and a peachbloom amphora for 12 500. Duveen also purchased a large black hawthorn beaker for 9 300. Eugene Ransom, 38, son of Carter and Adelphia Ransom of Belmont Avenue, Long Branch, died yesterday morning after a year of illness. Born in Essex county Virginia, he moved to Long Branch twenty years ago and worked for Jos Hirchfeld & Son and later as a driver for plumber Burns. Survived by parents, four siblings John Wilbur Theodore and Roseda, funeral at 1 pm tomorrow at the house, interment White Ridge cemetery by director Wm H Morris Jr.
St. Luke's Church held "Other People's Day" with Rev. Dr. John Y. Dobbins delivering the morning missionary sermon. In the evening Rev. Dr. John Handley of Ocean Grove spoke on Personal Evangelism, and Miss C. M. Suters of New York sang both services. The benevolent offering between 200 and 250 was raised. Handley, a former six year pastor here, received a reception after the service.
Members of the Ladies Aid Society of Old First Church West Long Branch plan a Wednesday night Rag Sociable in the church hall. The cast includes Mrs Winters and her family neighbors and twins with several Mrs Poole and Mrs Woolley among the players. Rehearsals run nightly and the show promises lively acting and originality.
An attempted break in at Charles J. Pupki’s auto supply store at 611 Broadway occurred between midnight and daybreak. A jimmy was used to try to force the front door, the lock bent, and the would be thieves fled. Ralph L. Drey saw two men at 6:20 and alerted Mr. Papki.
Chattle Five extends to seven straight wins by routing Maroon Athletic Club 44 to 13 on Saturday. Blaisdell nets a one handed backward shot as Chattle Cubs top visiting second team 24 to 7. Visitors arrive late. Kane and Sinclair lead a playful one handed contest for spectators.
The Monmouth Poultry Club of Red Bank votes to relocate its annual show to Asbury Park Casino from November 26 to 29. Public Grounds Commissioners grant free use of the casino with lights and janitors, while gate receipts share a percentage for Asbury Park. The move follows space constraints in Red Bank and the need for larger exhibition quarters.
A typographical error in last Friday’s Record misnamed Mr. Schenck. George Carre of New York offers an open Wednesday vocal studio at 41 Branchport Avenue Long Branch with free trial voices by appointment. Also promotes wall paper sales at Golden’s with a spring rush warning.
Riverside Gun Club members watched a trapshooting duel between Arthur B. Smith of Fair Haven and William T. Conover of Red Bank on Shrewsbury avenue. Smith won 7 to 6 after a 25 target side bet, with sweepstakes among members and plans for a large all day tournament next Wednesday with Rose system prizes.
The Spring Lake summary investigation before Supreme Court Justice Willard P Voorhees in New Brunswick is likely adjourned for several days. Borough officials defend in secrecy awaiting Mayor Oliver H Brown s return from Cherbourg expected March 1. Rumors link extravagant bathing pavilion costs and an alleged gravel purchase by Monmouth Gravel Company to the probe. Councilman George M Height denies involvement with the gravel firm, tied to Theodore H Bennett.
Geo Quackenbush of Little Silver owns an embroidered handkerchief donated by Mrs. Wood row Wilson to the Little Silver Methodist Church fair. The auction brought $2.50 and the fair, held in the church hall over three days, netted about $60 from suppers and lively booths run by Local groups and families. Majestic Theatre, Red Bank shows first class moving pictures nightly.
County Detective Elwood Minagh acted swiftly after Claude H. Gray a sixteen year old from Pleasant Valley near Holmdel shot four times at his stepfather James H. Gray on Friday night. Gray was found early morning in Harrisburg pa where he went to see his mother. Minagh swore warrants for atroci ous assault and grand larceny and planned to bring the youth to Freehold jail. He left for Harrisburg on the 10 51 train to arrange requisition or extradition as needed.
Mrs Joseph McLaughlin of Lakewood former Red Bank resident dies of tuberculosis at 26 in Oswego New York after six seven months away for health. Funeral tomorrow in Oswego with interment there. Husband an insurance agent and former Lakewood district superintendent, child survivor. Red Bank friends express sympathy.
The East Shrewsbury Lee Boat Club held a mosquito fleet race for the Vreeland pennant. The new boat Blind Buick, sailed by Wallace Duryee, won as Spud led but fouled the home stake twice and was disqualified. The Spud finished second. X. L. withdrew and Big Bill retired after the second round. Light wind kept times poor with no afternoon race.
Four West Red Bank boys Lester Brower Jr Daniel Hancock and Bennett Sidwell were stranded on a drifting ice cake about 8 by 20 feet south of Newman Springs bridge. Jefferson Davis a rower rescued them after stopping the cake. Another boy Willie Parker fell through a hole on ice at Fair Haven but was pulled out unharmed aside from a severe scare.
Tau' Crores Society of Monmouth county held their second annual banquet Friday at Harry T. Metzgar’s Globe Hotel Red Bank. The 33 members enjoyed an elaborate feast followed by entertainment by George Thompson and piano by Robert M. Ornstein. Officers listed include Judge William M. Thompson Provost John C. Rush secretary George W. Chandler and treasurer J. Lester Eisner. Joseph Mages of Morrell street injured his right index finger at Chandler & Maps Mill last Wednesday.
The Wemovins girls club from Red Bank defeated Middletown township high school girls 11 to 4 in a close, spirited season opener at Leonardo. Red Bank led throughout with Pearl Worden scoring three goals and three fouls. A return game is planned at the Red Bank Y M C A court.

It promises a Big Magazine of twenty-four color pages and a complete Joke Book, unique to the World. Also notes help wanted for a general housework job and a theater with daily moving pictures and vaudeville features.
Gibbons' Boat Covers sixteen mile course in thirty five minutes as XK L N O finish fifteen seconds behind in a fast pennant contest on North Shrewsbury ice.
Ex-Commodore John C. Glebom’s Ingenue of the South Shrewsbury Ice Yacht Club won a 16 mile triangle race on the North Shrewsbury river at Red Bank. Captain John Bates sailed Ingenue in 36 minutes flat with Eugene West as assistant. XLII placed second by 15 seconds, Tyre third about three minutes back.
At the annual stockholders meeting in New York the Monmouth County Horse Show Association elected officers and directors for 1938. President Harry Content Ket, Vice President Joseph J O Donohue Jr, Second Vice President James T Hyde, and Secretary Treasurer P J Cas with an executive committee including Content O Donohue Greenhut Hyde Casey. Directors named include Frederic Lewisohn and J Jacquin Rothschild among others. The Hollywood Park show dates were set for July 30 31 and August 1 2 with improvements planned to the grand stand and grounds. Blue ribbon winners’ owners anticipate a larger entry list for the shore meet.
