A railroad horse trespass near Elberon stalled New York and Long Branch trains for about two hours as crews cleared derailed cars. No injuries were reported though two rear cars left the rails and the animal was killed. Conductor James Van Houten and Superintendent L W Berry oversaw repairs. the 9.15 Long Branch departure resumed on schedule.

Minstrel show in Shrewsbury raises piano fund
About 200 people from Shrewsbury Red Bank and nearby towns attended a piano fund benefit at Shrewsbury public school auditorium. Miss Elizabeth Stryker organized with Eugene Magee aiding. Proceeds totaled around 85 dollars for the school piano fund. The program included a minstrel act led by James B. Clayton with end men Lester Hance and LeRoy Chamberlain, vocal soloists, duets, and quartet numbers. Prof Harold A. LaRos from New York gave piano solos and encore. The chorus list featured many locals, with careful rehearsal and strong audience applause throughout.

Frank Bennett seventy a Poplar farmer in Ocean township died yesterday from a stroke of apoplexy after a year of illness. He will be buried at Greenlawn West Long Branch after services at St Mary's Deal. He was Civil War veteran, twice married with a widow and several grown children.
