United States Ambassador Page and British Foreign Secretary Grey met in a diplomatic conference to discuss pressing bilateral issues and outline next steps for cooperation and exchange. The talks focused on alliance missions, regional security, and potential joint initiatives with close coordination.
The Long Branch Fire Department held its 1914 year end meeting at the Oceanic Fire House. Chief Joseph Schwark ceded to Edward J. Meld as chief at midnight with Mayor Newcomb presenting the ex chief badge later. New 1915 officers include President Edward J. Reid and James P. Ennis Jr. as vice president.
Washington reports that officials see signs other neutral states will back the United States in its protest against British interference with shipping. Italy, Holland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden have received copies of the U S note. London notes a cabinet meeting to discuss the protest and hints negotiations may be long. Officials say Britain will not rush a reply, while American support remains strong.

Eleven members of Chattle High School’s February 1 graduating class boarded the 11:20 train to Washington D C yesterday. They will stay three days, returning New Year’s. Chaperones Miss Mary L Meloskey and Miss Julia Enright led the group.
Red Bank Y M C A plans a New Year’s program starting at noon with piano solos by Professor Harold A LaRos and violin pieces by Bennia Gallo. High School boys chorus, readings by Miss Helen Powers, vocal solos by Miss Ruth Huyler and Miss Christine Hook, Eugene Magee, Harry Boskey, and a male quartet will perform. A basketball game closes the event, with the building open to the public free of charge and refreshments provided. A joint Auxiliary and Y M C A committee will manage arrangements.
The Board of Chosen Freeholders will meet on the first Wednesday each month at the Court House Freehold replacing the second Wednesday. Finance and auditing committees will audit bills on the first Monday. Monthly claims for teams and labor now close at month end to simplify road and bridge account checks for January 1915 meeting on January 6. Albert M. Whiteford leaves his post as chief clerk at Hast Long Branch after three years to become trainmaster of the Lehigh and Susquehannah Division in Mauch Chunk Pennsylvania. A Knights Templar charm was presented to replace a stolen one, inscribed to Whiteford by the Long Branch office force. He has been active in Abacus Lodge and Adah Chapter No five and is a former ruler of the craft in New York State.
A posse led by Texas Rangers chased two masked men who robbed passengers on Southern Pacific train No. 9 near Cline, 116 miles west of San Antonio. The bandits, who boarded at Cline, robbed berths and warned the porter, then signalled the train to stop near Spofford before escaping into rough country. The loot value remains unknown.
The damage suit of Mrs. Mary Corbett against Alexander Gaston of Matawan, scheduled in Judge Steinbach's court at City Hall, was settled out of court after a jury had been called. Corbett, operator of the National Motel, claimed $500 for injuries from a Belmont avenue accident over a year ago. She was represented by lawyer Thomas P. Fay. Gaston was represented by Elmer H. Geran.
Senator Fletcher acting commerce committee chairman says administration ship purchase bill awaits action in both houses. He will push to bring the measure up for Senate debate as soon as possible.
Judge John W. Slocum presided as juries convicted two defendants at Freehold. Michael Trotto, an Italian from Red Hawk, was found guilty of assault and battery on Samuel Genetsky, while Paul Francis, colored, was convicted of robbery and larceny from Stephen J. Anderson of Eaton town.
