Berlin reports German gains near Nieuwport and Brulee while repelling a French attack northwest of St Mouthoult and capturing three French machine guns. In the east German advances on the lower Vistula are noted amid poor weather hampering major offensives. Cars Return From Long Overseas Journey In Texas Garage

In the McFaddin garage two cars that travelled 24 000 miles each by water and rail belong to EB A Wilhelmi of 71 Murray Street New York exporter. One car reached Long Branch three weeks ago the other last Thursday both under reserve men. The China bound car came aboard the Indridea steamship on the Shanghai Hankow and Yokohama Line. Cars left unloaded and destined by San Francisco then returned via the Isthmus of Panama. Dorman McFaddin aided unloading and shipping. The sight of the Indridea and her cargo impressed observers.

Youth Confesses Shooting Beatrice Bailey in Milville

John Horn, 25, a rejected suitor of Beatrice Bailey’s aunt, confessed to detectives that he shot the six year old by mistake while the bullet was meant for his former sweetheart Alice Petit. Horn surrendered at the Petit home and faced arraignment planned for today.

Christmas Cantata Featured At St George Rumson Program

The Sunday school at St George's Church Rumson held its annual Christmas exercises at Ralph Hall last night. A fine Christmas cantata was performed as the feature. Attendance was large and the program was greatly enjoyed. Presents were distributed.

The Oceanic Fire Engine Co No 1 holds its annual meeting tomorrow evening on Norwood avenue to elect officers. Henry Joline is the current president. After the meeting a social will follow with refreshments and a display of pond work near Red Bank and Wjam grows.

Christmas Treat for Deserving Children at Grand Theatre

The Long Branch Society for the Improvement of the Poor hosted its annual Christmas party for underprivileged children at the Grand Theatre. Over six hundred pre-distributed tickets ensured broad participation as Santa Claus, portrayed by Assistant Fire Chief Jamey Ennis Jr, brought joy alongside gifts, fruits, and a seasonal program. Camp Fire Girls assisted, and local police helped maintain order as the event ran smoothly on the lower floor with boxed seating and balcony views.

Thawing pipes start fire at Feldman notions store

Prompt discovery of a fire at the Feldman notion store on Broadway near Rockwell avenue halted a potential blaze. A hidden flame in an old discarded ice box partition caused minor damage and under $6 loss. Independent engine company and mobile hose acted to control it.

Poles Use Approved and Land Sales Granted

The State Public Utility Commission approved an agreement between New York Telephone and Consolidated Gas for joint pole use in Long Branch. It also approved $5,000 in additional capital stock for Monmouth Lighting. The Board granted permission for Pennsylvania Railroad Company to sell land in Jersey City Rahway Cranbury and South Brunswick.

Christmas Play At St James Draws Parish Crowd

St James Church hosted a three act Christmas play written by Rev Morton A Barnes for Grace Church Newark. A large audience of Sunday school scholars and families enjoyed scenes of Santa Claus and giving with music by Wars Boy Orchestra, staged by A J Ripley. Cast included Lilian Neale Robert Topping Beatrice Emmons Anna Wardell and many others with gifts distributed to scholars at the end.

Trenton December 29 Philip Dresher ex Princeton football man and engineer proposes an apparatus to pump compressed air under waves along the New Jersey coast. Air pumps on shore send air pipes beneath the surf to lessen the wave’s damaging force during heavy storms.

Farmer Struck By Auto Dies Here

David Bowne a 67 year old farmer died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered when struck by a car between Old Bridge and Browntown in Middlesex county. The 11 pm Saturday accident left him unconscious. coroner John G. Sexton attended. Bowne’s body went to his Matawan home for funeral arrangements and a service is planned. Separately Miss Rose Bighnuis and Clarence Hennessey wed Christmas Eve at the First Presbyterian parsonage with Mr and Mrs Walter Mischler as witnesses and the couple planning to reside on James Street in a newly furnished home.
