Parcel Post Rush Breaks All Records at Long Branch

The Long Branch post office saw a record parcel post rush during Christmas weeks with 50,000 one cent stamps sold. Postmaster Thomas L. Slocum began with two wagons and added two more by Friday to handle the surge, with extra carriers at the main office and at Station B and A.

Three Year Old Dies In Storm Related Illness

Anna M Johnson three year old daughter of George and Clara Johnson of Newstreet Lea Bright died at home Saturday night after a cold during the recent storm. Consolidation Meeting Sets Ashland Sea Bright Councils

P Hall Packer will preside at the consolidation of Searchlight Council with Ashland Council of Sea Bright tonight. Ashland will elect officers and add 83 Highlands members to its roster. Doughnuts and cider will be served after. Rev. W F Atkinson has a unanimous invitation to return for a second year at the third quarterly conference held last Wednesday night. He will hold a watch night service Thursday at 9 30 followed by ten days of revival effort.

Judge Slocum certified the request to Governor Fielder to extradite Raeffello Criscollo, charged with burglarizing Herbert Cooper’s Long Branch home on November 6. Four Fatally Burned in Aged Home Fire in Cambridge

At the Cambridge City Home in North Cambridge a midnight fire killed four elderly women and injured more than a dozen others. The blaze started in a paint shop and climbed to the third floor dormitory where eighty five women and nine children slept. Police and staff aided escapees as smoke filled the building and several were overcome. The Hebrew Helping Hand Society mobilized aid with clothing and fuel donations and announced new officers.

The funeral for Mrs Josephine Allgor wife of Dewitt Allgor who died suddenly of pneumonia after a five day illness was held yesterday afternoon at her Eatontown road home. Canadian Soldiers Fire on Boats Near Niagara River

Tailor Benjamin Sussman Killed at Asbury Park Crossing

Benjamin Sussman a 60 year old tailor of 1182 Springwood avenue Asbury Park was killed at the Sunset avenue crossing when he stepped from behind a northbound New York and Long Branch train into the path of a southbound New York train. Detective Sergeant Broderick led the investigation and coroner Sexton was notified. Survived by his wife and two sons.

1500 Enjoy Skating at Red Bank on Snowy Day

About 1 500 people skated on the Shrewsbury river at Red Bank yesterday despite snow. An ice boat race was postponed due to light wind. The North Shrewsbury Yacht Club plans to meet Wednesday to elect officers and discuss the season.
