Christmas Mail Handled Here At Local Post Office

The local post office processed about two hundred thousand pieces of mail in the week ending Christmas Day. Sales of 34000 one cent stamps and 15000 two cent stamps totaled 1051 dollars. Added staff including carrier Benj Woolley and two extra clerks aided the rush. Four extra carriers supported deliveries with no mail held over all week. Postmaster Woolley praised the prompt service and expects no extra help needed before New Year’s.

Central Railroad Suit Dropped In East Orange Court

Mrs. Jeanette B Mullikin withdrew her tort claim against the Central Railroad of New Jersey in East Orange District Court. Her suit sought 500 dollars plus costs for a trunk and contents ruined August 28 at Normandie station near Highlands. The inventory valued the trunk at 602138 dollars, with excess over court limits waived.

Zimmerman ordered to resume alimony payments

Arthur A. Zimmerman of Asbury Park must pay overdue alimony to Grace Riley Zimmerman after Vice-Chancellor Emory ruled the payments arrears from May last. The case notes Zimmerman, a noted bicycling figure, avoided contempt only after halting payments on counsel advice.

Grand jury sent back on Myers case in Monmouth County

The October grand jury was sent back to consider the William Myers case regarding the Elberon Myer garage gambling raid. Judge Foster noted the case had not been included in eighty seven indictments and urged further consideration before adjournment. The jury later adjourned sine die.

At a Eatontown township committee meeting a contract was awarded to the Seagrave company through their eastern agent R B Storm for a No 80 Seagrave full truck hook and ladder. Delivery is in 90 days fully equipping the fire department for firefighting.

Big Improvements for Keansburg

William A. Geblhaus of Atlantic Highlands and Jesse L. Sculthrop of Highlands have become sole owners of the New Point Comfort Beach Company of Keansburg. Plans include widening the steamboat dock, enlarging the hotel and casino, starting a new Auditorium, and developing the area into a parklike resort with 60 new houses and a planned carnival expansion next summer.

The cold wave arrived last evening with strong winds. Zero or below temperatures stretch across Dakota Iowa and the Lake region with freezing readings reaching Alabama and Georgia. Atlantic coast winds hit 64 mph while our area logged 72 mph this morning. Winds ease to 60 65 mph this afternoon but rise again tonight as the weather bureau warns of a 20 degree low and at least a three day stay of the cold snap.

Christmas Jubilee at St Luke's Sunday School

The St Luke's M E Sunday school held its annual Christmas jubilee with over 1,000 members from eight divisions enjoying afternoon and evening entertainments. Santa distributed gifts to Cradle Roll children and others received baskets of fruit and mottoes. The evening featured Albert Baker ventriloquist and magician and William Vaughn, with Edwards' Orchestra opening the program. Fred Nelson remains critically ill at his Grove street home after six weeks with typhoid.

Atlantic Annual Ball Set By Engine and Trucky Group

The thirty sixth annual ball from the Atlantic Engine and Truck Co will be held in the Lyceum tomorrow evening. The arrangement committee, all company members, has spent the past week planning the social event. Supper will follow a program with music by Prof. J Pitman West's orchestra. A metal ceiling is being installed at Mulligan and Braso's Broadway store.
