Fugitive Youth Harsh Arrest In Red Bank Pit

Harry Hohman a Red Bank youth was arrested by Detective Elwood Minagh on charges of atrocious assault and battery and stealing money from Thomas Stanton known as Blackey. Stanton reported being beaten with a shoe in James Morton barn hayloft at Little Silver Tuesday night and later showed a bloodstained shoe. Hohman, 20, claimed self defense and denied theft, offering a varied history including canal boat work and prior suspicions in a warehouse fire.

Blanchard Estate Sold on Riverside Drive Middletown

The Blanchard estate on Riverside Drive Middletown Township was sold Tuesday to William H. English of New York vice president of the Empire Trust Company. Edward S. Allaire conducted the sale. The price was about $50,000. The property covers about 26 acres with roughly 1,500 feet of frontage on the North Shrewsbury river and extends north to Riverside Drive.

Mrs Theo Young Jr. has been a medical patient at Monmouth Memorial Hospital for five weeks with typhoid fever and is now on the convalescing list.

Keenan Recovering At Home After Hospital Stay

Bernard Keenan manager of the East View Hotel Highlands returned home from Monmouth Memorial Hospital where he had been for several weeks. Barney on the road to recovery. George H Willett Jr eldest son of Mr and Mrs George H Willett Sr of Port Monmouth has won the blue rock championship of Central Pennsylvania. He is an engineer on the Pennsylvania Railroad and lives at Emporium Penn. The elder Mr Willett was one of the best known gun shots in New Jersey years ago.

Yacht Bought for Fertilizer Shipments

The New York and New Jersey Fish Oil and Guano Company of Port Monmouth has purchased a 120 foot steam yacht from Lewis Delaware. The vessel will be remodeled to haul fertilizer oil and related goods to New York and New England ports. A local holiday bazaar at St Luke's invites last minute shoppers.

New Jersey Leads in Fruit Growing Says Horticulturists

The thirty seventh annual New Jersey State Horticultural Society meeting closed at Freehold with officer elections and committee appointments. Lenuel Black led premium winners with 86 awards for pears and apples, while J H Barclay claimed 21 plates. Special fruit and flower honors went to Elias C Black and Mrs George Read. The event highlighted New Jersey as a top state for apples, with remarks on strawberry varieties and irrigation trials.

Long Branch Resident Daniel Bodine Dies at 52

Daniel Bodine of Long Branch, about 52, died at Monmouth Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Born on a North Pemberton farm, he was the son of Stryker and Mary Bodine. He married at Toms River. his wife and one son predeceased him. Surviving are a Philadelphia son and two sisters in Mt Holly and Philadelphia. Cremains or funeral plans not yet announced.

Stokes Near Death in New York After Shooting Case

New York December 14 report says William E. D. Stokes millionaire hotel owner is dying at the Ansonia after an abdominal operation for an abscess. He was shot in the case revived by testimony against Lillian Graham and Ethel Conrad. His condition has been critical after a bad night.

Minstrel show planned by Long Branch Military Band

The Long Branch Military Band plans a minstrel show in mid February to benefit the music fund. Messrs William Errickson and William James, noted local entertainers, will oversee preparations. Walter Hill, president of the Monmouth County Tigers Club, arranges a Club dinner at Bank's Hotel on Thursday evening December 21 with invitation-only tickets.
