Youth and accuser both go to jail in Red Bank

Twenty year old Red Bank youth Harry Hohman was charged with atrocious assault after a September 12 incident in James Martins barn at Little Silver. He and accuser Thomas Stanton stood bail hearings at Borough Hall with Hohman held on 500 dollars and Stanton as material witness on 100 dollars.

Utilities Board Approves Phone Grant on Provoso

The State Public Utility Commission approved Eatontown Township New Jersey granting New York Telephone Company right to construct a telephone line through the township with conditions preserving utility power over future actions and overhead wires. The same board approved an ordinance granting the company right to build an underground line in certain highways in the township.

William W Crane of Lehighton Avenue Red Bank has purchased the Hotel Belford from Joseph Ritter who has run the hotel for the past two years. Crane, known locally for his time with H G Dering Co Red Bank, will take possession on Tuesday January 2. Ritter has not decided his next business move.

Captain Israel J. Merritt Dies at Eighty Two in New York

Captain Israel J. Merritt dies in New York at eighty two after stomach operation. Born August 28 1820 in the city he began as mule driver on the canal at age ten and later became a Long Island Sound boatman and salvage pioneer of the Merritt Chapman and Company wrecking firm. About seventy five members of the Wong Branch Choral Society met at Library Hall for a business session rehearsal and discussion of membership applications and dues of 60 cents a month.
