A brand new fourteen inch gun from Watervliet Arsenal burst during preliminary trials at Sandy Hook Army proving grounds. Captain McCaughey ordered crew to safety as fragments flew, destroying the test carriage but causing no injuries. The blast left only wreckage and exposed the breech plug and rear of the gun. The weapon is among the largest US models, second only to the 16 inch monster now mounted at Hook.
A coroner's jury in Norwood, held at City Hall, found Milton L. Cross of Asbury Park not to blame for the December 3 accident that fatally struck Samuel Throckmorton. Cross testified he blew his horn and tried to stop, but the elderly man stepped into the path of his seven passenger auto. eyewitnesses confirmed the horn and brake sounds, with the front of the car striking Throckmorton. The jury concluded the death was accidental.

Funeral services for William Frederick Malchow Red Bank barber who died suddenly will be held Friday at Trinity Episcopal Church West Front Street at 1 30 with interment at Fair View Cemetery Middletown Township. Former Mayor Thomas R. Woolley, president of the Monmouth Memorial Hospital Board of Governors, will fund and oversee fitting a ward named the infants’ department. A medical board committee suggested by surgeons Field Shaw and Slocum prompted changes to hospital by laws and the establishment of an infant care ward.
Mrs. Thomas N. McCarter of Rumson reported her husband will cover a $2000 obligation due the first of the year at the Monmouth Memorial Hospital board meeting. An effort will seek county and township support for 1913 with last year’s $25,000 charity target and Freeholders contributing $10,000. A committee will request a contribution from Freeholders. The Bath avenue cottage resident is installing a vacuum cleaning system for the hospital.

Edward Braxton aged 45 died from tuberculosis in Tren ton State Prison amid ill health and prior criminal sentences. Braxton once a police figure in Red Bank and served time for grand larceny after earlier release for good behavior. Bridgey Webber and his wife returned from Havana and accused Jack Sullivan of instigating Rosenthal’s murder. Webber claimed Becker used Sullivan to pressure witnesses. he said his own role was limited and he faced possible harm from the death row inmates. Assistant DA Moss noted no plot and hinted at witness suppression efforts connected to Becker’s case.

A gray automobile disregarded two red danger signals and drove over a trench in Liberty Street at 5:30 last evening. Laborer Louis Pictore was knocked to his knees and injured as dirt piles shielded workers while the car sped away toward Broadway. Patrolman Emmons summoned aid. Pictore received medical attention for back pains with no suspected spine injury.
