Body found floating off Sandy Hook by Life Saving crew

Life Saving Station No. 1 found a decomposed body floating off Sandy Hook yesterday afternoon. The deceased, about 35, six feet tall with dark hair, wore union underwear a soft shirt dark trousers a belt socks and tan shoes with a black necktie. Coroner Morris will hold the body at his morgue for days to aid identification and possible inquiry from a missing fishing boat.

Prizes Awarded at Little Mothers Meeting

At Library Hall on Saturday the Little Mother's Meeting awarded prizes to four children under the direction of visiting nurse Miss Helen Forbes. Florence Leonard won first prize, Ella Dangler second, Laura Rogers third, and Marion Thorn fourth. Drs Slocum and Nichs judged and health talks covered baby care hygiene and summer stomachs.

Lightning Kills Beloved Swiss Bull Finches at Wayside Farm

A violent storm struck Wayside Farm and killed two imported Swiss Bull Finches named Alsace and Lorraine. The birds were beloved singers and highly valued within the household, mourned by the owners.

McCall Fined For Speeding By Officer Swanson

Harry McCall was arrested by Motorcycle Officer Swanson for exceeding the speed limit and fined ten dollars plus costs by Recorder Arowsmith this morning.

A fire at 2.45 this morning consumed the paint shop of A. Giambrone in Exchange Place. The building was nearly a total loss with origin of the blaze still undetermined.

Supreme Chief Lippincott to meet grand masters in Washington

Supreme Chief George A. Lippincott of the Knights of the Golden Eagle leaves for Washington D C for a conference with Washingtons grand master and other grand officers. His term ends in October with the Supreme Castle session to be held at Norfolk Va. Harvest home at Oakhurst on Wednesday September 2 features home made cakes and delicacies and social gathering with buses from Long Branch.

Elsie Janes Gulick Dies in Bloomfield

The Blythe area mourns Elsie Janes Gulick who died in Bloomfield New Jersey from tuberculosis and peritonitis. She was 22 and survived by her parents Mr and Mrs Harry A Janes two brothers and three sisters and a daughter Isabel. Funeral services are set for tomorrow at two at the family home with Rev Dr R B Stephenson officiating. Interment will be at West Long Branch.

Candle Left Burning Ignites Small Bronway Fire

A lighted candle in a second story front room of the Rimo building in Bronway near Second avenue started a small blaze after the renters left a kerosene lamp out. Clothes on the bureau caught fire as the candle burned down. A passerby alerted the fire department but only a few pails of water were needed to control the fire. no injuries reported.

Mystery Jewel Theft At Deal Baffles Police

A bag of jewels belonging to Mrs. A A Slaughter of Dallas Texas disappeared Wednesday night from the Hathaway Inn desk in Deal while in transit to the hotel safe. The gem values range from four thousand to twenty nine thousand dollars with Mrs Slaughter citing twenty nine thousand. Police in Newark and New York have been notified along with a partial article list including pearls, diamonds sapphire and diamond rings and bracelets in a gray chamois bag.

Daniel Guggenheim of the Firenze and wife were in first cabin with two men servants and three maids. Second Bather Drowned in Belmar Spot

Cyrus Collins a 20 year old bellboy at the Buena Vista drowned at Belmar Ninth avenue bathing grounds after swimming with George Robinson who sheltered him before failing to reach shore. Proprietor G W Leonard was informed after 5 pm. Robinson was rescued by pulmotor after becoming unconscious.

Thieves entered Harry Sniffen’s house on Shrewsbury Avenue and Peters Place, Red Bank, taking eighty cents from trousers and ransacking rooms. An ice box theft at Hendrickson’s home yielded ham bacon jam. A public disturbance followed as intoxication led to a man being found helpless and later bound by Recorder Badeau.
