County Democratic Candidates Galore

Monmouth County Democratic Executive Committee met at Freehold with Long Branch delegates and several city figures among attendees. The piece lists numerous Assembly and freeholder candidates from towns including Shrewsbury, Pied Frick, Atlantic Highlands, Matawan, Keyport, Hazlet, Freehold, Marlboro, Rumson, Asbury Park, Englishtown, and Long Branch. Red Bank Visit Highlights Sleeper Family Ties

Denver resident Littleton White Sleeper visits his mother Mrs Abbie Sleeper of Shrewsbury. He is son of the late Samuel T Sleeper of the Civil War era, after whom the Samuel T Sleeper Camp No 16, Sons of Veterans, is named. Stokes Announces Platform for Senate Campaign

Former Governor Edward C. Stokes pledges a permanent impartial tariff commission to set rates, backs inland waterways and merchant marine, and champions resource conservation. Pony Runaway Wrecks Carnival Trip Injures Family

Mrs. James Burke and her son Allen Brand Burke were thrown from a pony driven cart near Seventh Avenue and Broadway when the pony bolted and overturned the cart. Mrs. Burke sustained facial injuries and shock, Allen bruised and scratched, both taken home after medical aid arrived. No bones were broken.

Long Branch Carnival Draws 26 000 Spectators in Milestone Event

The second annual Long Branch children’s carnival along the Jersey coast drew over 1,000 entrants across eleven divisions with more than 26,000 spectators watching the parade and prize awards. Chief James Layton led police as horsemen escorted the procession past Ocean Park with Queen Elizabeth and a royal retinue reviewing floats and prize winners.

Insanity Defense Rejected In Mayor Shooting Case

James J. Gallagher declared in Hudson county jail that he knew what he did when he shot Mayor Gaynor, opposing the insanity plea. Doctors reported Mayor Gaynor improving, sleeping eight hours, no narcotics since the shooting, bullet located near the pharynx and easily removable with local anaesthetic.

Chief Wins Final Meet at Trotting Races on Ocean Avenue

Lewis Samuels’ horse Chief won the free-for-all final heat at the Ocean Avenue trotting race. Chief topped Jen Bells in the event and received the silver loving cup. Samuels also won the 2.18 pacing event, collecting two cups for the afternoon meet.
