AFL CIO May Endorse Presidential Candidate in 1956
George Meany, president of the AFL, said the merged AFL CIO, planned by December, will likely endorse a presidential candidate next year. He noted the decision would come from presidents of about 145 unions in the integrated group, who will meet next year to discuss issues. Pentagon apologizes for special flight for senators
Defense Department says neither Sen. McClellan nor Sen. Stennis sought nor were aware of a special $20,060 round trip four engine transport flight planned to fetch Chavez and his party from Europe. The apology comes after senators demanded no special treatment and officials say the incident caused embarrassment to the lawmakers. Chavez had said no request was made for special transport.
