A San Francisco native and University of San Francisco graduate, he had served as a state employee since 1932 and was appointed to his present post on October 27, 1953. Survived by wife and two children. Governor Knight expressed grief and called him an expert in licensing and regulatory laws.

A 2.5 magnitude aftershock struck Walnut Creek Concord and Benicia at 6 47 11 p m Tuesday night according to UC seismograph station. No damage was reported from the East Bay tremor tied to the Sunday quake.
In Los Angeles police news, West Los Angeles officers were jailed on burglary charges tied to burglaries at a camera store and a seed company in Westwood. Chief Parker said about 83000 in stolen goods were involved. The five officers Namely M. Friday Charles F. Bores Charles H. Farneil Elmer J. Balsters and F. C. Grossman resigned and were jailed at Central Jail pending prosecution.
